997 Turbo - panel fit query

Sorry, didn't make my self clear, the s/r makes no noise when closed but when on tilt or open the wind noise is very loud. I usually like the s/r on tilt but it makes too much wind noise. Just wondered if other's do it ?

What, makes more noise when open? No Sh1t Sherlock!!!
 
Hi Grover, Thanks for your tip, I wasn't quite sure what you meant when I replied to you before but I have had a chance to look at the rubber buffers and see what you mean. "twisting" sounded horrendous but I see that the rubber buffers are threaded and can be screwed in and out!
The OPC have obviously looked at this without mentioning it and the buffers are as far up as they can be and still be able to close the bonnet. The fit is still unacceptable and way over the 2mm mentioned further up this thread. Good thought though and thanks again.
 
Sureley the catch is adjustable too? 'Normal' cars are [:D]

How does the luggage compartment cover meet the front wings at the very front where the problem is?
 
One would have thought so!!

The upper catch is fairly solidly contoured around the lower bonnet lip otherwise a couple of washers/spacers could have done the trick.

The opening latch is buried and looks pretty solidly embedded in the infrastructure but I cannot see for sure without taking bits off.

What adjustment there is sems to be two threaded rubber bungs which merely adjust (slightly) the horizontal level on each side rather than the lid as a whole. I can understand that no one wants the lid to fly open at any speed let alone around 190 mph but it does seem that there is a lot of variance on the individual fit of several Turbo lids.

As it is the whole lid seems pushed down very firmly and under compression which I cannot see how to relieve.

It certainly offends my eye particularly after my 2003 996C4S which I still feel was prettier anyway and had no gap!

The OPC have already washed their hands of it and said it is supposed to be like that and they don't accept the diagram tolerance of 2mm kindly provided to this thread since it refers to a Boxter!

So far I have been unable to any concrete information on what the tolerance should be for the 997TT.
Hopefully will get to the factory before the warranty runs out!
 
I'd presume the panel fit should be the same for any 997, if so a quick look around their stock should confirm if they are supposed to be like that.
I doesn't sound right to me, but I'd think it should be a fairly straightforward fix.
Another option may be to contact the nearest Porsche 'Approved' bodyshop and discuss it with them, they should have good knowledge about this.

Thanks Sandy, that is a good idea. I will try to find out who is approved here in Jersey and see if I get anywhere.

I have wandered around the showroom and the gap varies but mine is the worst. The official story goes that Turbo's have a bigger gap due to the increased performance!!! I haven't inspected a similar Turbo yet, they all seem to be moving too fast when I spot them!
