Just a short note to welcome all 997 turbo owners to the 997 register. We're now the official home of 997 TT, as it was felt that the new model is much closer related to the 997 than the air-cooled models that are the majority of the Turbo register. Owners are welcome in either the 997 or the Turbo regsiters, as is the case with 996 Turbo, but we hope you'll want to stay with us. Our own Register Assistant, Gary Willn, is himself a new turbo owner with intimate knowledge of the beast.

So a warm welcome to all 8 of you ! We look forward to seeing you at some of the events over the coming year - check-out February's Porsche Post for initial details.

Rob

Glad to be one of 8 and to be able to give the X51 guys something to shoot at
The X51 boys are suggesting that their kit gives the car fabulous speed, tremendous noise and lots of character compared to the spaceship-acceleration-but-ultimately-rather-bland-turbo....

Where does the TT brigade stand on that? [:D]

Graham,

Would you say your TT sounded bland with your Tubi?

Dapster

The TT has beter brakes and a more secure front end. TT also has superb traction with the 4wd. My old C2S with PSE was a great car but when pushed the front end was very twitchy. I would agree the TT would be better if it made more noise but Graham can tell us about that as he has recently had a Tubi fitted. I would also have liked a choice in wheels and not be forced to have a sun roof and TPM but thats Porsche for you

Chill out Boys,

We are only jealous cos we cant afford a turbo due to the depreciation on our 'cooking' models !

Seriously though, the powerkit atmo engine has a great delivery and character which makes it hard to justify the extra £40k for the blown engine on performance alone.

When Porsche bring out the X50 turbo and we can get it tweaked to 600bhp by DMS I will probably trade up to one but not before !

Yves

The car has been transformed noise wise with the Tubi. I've sent a sound-bite to Scuderia so should be on the web soon. If i could work out how - I'd attach it to this post for all to enjoy! Trouble is it's about 3MB!

Power wise - now I've never driven either an X50 or GT2 - I took Mike from Sports&Classic (who fitted the pipe) out for a spin last weekend, and according to him it was quicker than either of the last incarnations, and the pick-up with the Variable Vane Technology was far better.
He is doing a conversion on a customers GT2 which should poke it up to 580 bhp.
Driving through 2 wheels should make for an interesting, butt clenching experience!!!
The drive on Saturday in the damp was 'fun' enough for moi!

Agree with all the comments about the 'quiet' 997 TT, but the drive is addictive and results in a big smile everytime I drive it and look at it, in my view it is on a completely different level than the C2S I had last. The only real problem with it is where to go next (only another Turbo would do). Hope from the 8 registered there is a range of specs (manual & Tip) and colours to make comparisons. Btw, with sport on it is slightly less quieter at lower rpm.

Hi
Mine is Speed Yellow 6 speed manual with short shift, carbon-fibre stick, crested adaptive sports seats, thicker steering wheel, top tint, parking sensor (sales staff persuaded me to include this), rear wiper and CD autochanger.

The spec. is perfect for me - although with hindsight I might have omitted the autochanger since it does take up valuable storage space and the sound system already accepts MP3's so 12 CD's could be compressed onto 1 disc. Wasn't really up with this technology when I placed the order.

Hope to meet some of you out there during the coming year.

Regards,

Clive[;)]

I am about to join the X51 club 'cause its sounds great and goes well and I'd decided years ago i preffered the purity of 2wd normaly aspirated over 4wd trubo, besdies the turbo was too quick for me......[][][] Yeah right

Yes I want one (997 TT) and can't afford one (I speeced one at £107k) and couldn't endure the wait so I went for the cheaper but very nice C2S x51.

It'll keep me happy for a few years ,then as Yves said when the x50 powerkit comes out I'll have to sell the kids and buy the Turbo.

Wonder if I can get away with the same colour and telling the wife it was a recall and oil filter change for the extra performance..............

Flawless logic, works every time for me !

Be sure to hide those bank statements though !!

Dont worry Mr Yves quite chilled. Will soon be actually be bl**dy frozen as off to CAMP 4 where temperatures were below -20C at the weekend. Hope to do a write up for Rob and the Poste on my return. Its good to see some leg pulling on the forum occaisionally but no jokes please about me visiting Father Christmas in Lapland. (Thats not Lap dancing Land boys so dont get excited)The good new is that the trip is being led by Barry Horne who I did my Turbo driving experience with and he is a joy to be in a car with.

Had the the X51 kit been available when I ordered my C2S I would probably not be in a Turbo now. Unlike Mr. Yves I didnt fancy the conversion. One advanatge of the Turbo though (amongst many of course) is that you do get a genuine dry sump so no worries about oil starvation on track days. Have you hard driving X51 drivers checked your oil pressure recently?

I look forward to seeing you guys at the 997 shooting event where no doubt there will be some nervous X51 owners when Rob lets me loose with a gun in my hand

It is the one thing I'd of dropped from my spec, struggling to get a good set of luggage as the multichanger fouls most suitcases, including the Porsche one I tried...
Apparently is was cheaper if I purchased it when picking up the car [&:] NOT..

Right Gary - that's the challenge then! Watched the Miltek clip and this weekend i'll try and get some more video clips and U-Tube them!
A blast through the local airport tunnels is a must![:)] I will be at Oulton on Saturday and hopefully get a sound level check.
