Just returned from 4 days away (car run fine friday) and passenger door jammed and with key in and ignition on warning lightd saying "PSM MALFUNCTIO and PASM MALFUNCTION" window wond open and car wont turn over making clicking sound. Is it the battery?? i have Porsche assist

David could you elaborate on"passenger door jammed"? Do you mean didn't unlock with blipper? Have you tried re-locking/unlocking? For my money battery sounds favourite. How old is battery?

as far as im aware the battery is as old as the car ie 4yrs. passenger door wont open even when i try to lock it and unlock it. lights will come on but warning signals are coming on when i turn on the ignition. because the passenger door is part open there is the "bleep" when i try and lock the car with the remote but its a bit of a half hearted "bleep". make sense??

Sorry to be thick but how is the pass door part open? Can you push it closed? Do you use batt conditioner a la CTEK? If not then 3-4years seems to be common lifespan of batt. I like the "half-hearted bleep" [:(]- also points to batt? Can't think of anything else obvious, sorry

i havnt yet managed to push the door closed again yet and cant really see what good it wud do. yeah, battery favorite i guess although i recon very poor on a 997. let me guess, the porsche one far more expensive than a bosch better equivelent but if i dont go for it then the warranty is a problem???

Didn't you post recently that you car hadn't missed a beat under a warranty thread? Tempting fate then[:(] I just wondered if you got pass door shut whether you could then reset system by locking/unlocking? I guess you're right about a replacement batt.....

haha yes very true i did say it hadnt missed a beat and how im gonna eat those very words right now!!! But hey, tks for reminding me! ive tried locking/unlocking and no joy. gonna be battery im sure bit will see Porsche Assist man tomorrow for confirmation. Can i insist i want a non porsche battery??

I'm no expert on warranty etc with regards non-Porsche battery. But I have said before hereabouts that at £130 ish for a (Porsche) battery, say every 3 years, (£40/year) is peanuts compared to the other running costs - tyres for example. Let us know what happens tomorrow. Good luck
Alan

Porsche Assist will be the RAC, they will offer you a battery which you do not have to take- nor would it probably be a Porsche battery.
You can buy any battery you so wish, however in order to stay in the new warranty it very much seems as if you need to buy one from Porsche..

Your choice..

Sorry David, think I'm wrong and you're right about the prices. I should think at £280 it should come gift wrapped on a silver platter with a free bottle of bubbly!
Gary, could soon start a new Forum for warranty and battery only threads?!![;)] Thankfully I've got another 18 months to deliberate on the new extended warranty. Could have all changed by then?[:)]

Sounds like the battery.

Car should be locked when left standing as it then goes into 'shut down' mode - conserving power.

Just had a new Porsche battery supplied and installed by Porsche Assist for my wife's 987'S' at £162.

so will the RAC man go and get it for me??

Just checked and apparently they are a breakdown recovery service... no listing under couriers [;)]

IF you were to get the official Porsche guy then maybe he would have one on the van, however most likely that it will be a usual RAC guy, so that would be down to him but my guess it probably not.
They will check it and inform you of its status...

many tks all. i have made a call and have a "porsche technician" heading out to me at some point so will let u know the upshot

If my experience of Porsche Assist due to battery failure is anythign to go by, then...

RAC man will check the battery, and alternator
Will check his stock of RAC batteries and discover they have nothing big enough for the car
Jump start you and send you on your way.

In my case i was 125 miles from home and with 120mile fuel range - i was advised not to stop the car in case it didn't restart !

Fortunately by driving like miss daisy i managed to get home with 15 mile range left - new Bosch battery courtesy of Costco (£24 at the time !) fitted the next day

this thread might be of additional use regarding obtaining a Porsche battery via RAC

Check window position before pushing door shut as lack of battery power can mean the window drop function, which happens just before the door closes to negotiate the window surround, isn't reliable.

Hmm.. good point. I assumed that the door was only very slightly open from David's description. I haven't looked that closely tbh but I thought the window is dropped all the time the door is open (batt power available, of course!) and not just before it closes? I also thought, mistaken obviously, it was to allow the door to close more easily being such an air tight cabin!

Think you're right : window should stay down slightly when door open - in the event of a dead battery (always used a CTEK since) I've experienced an open door with the window in the closed position which at least snags on the rubber surround parts when almost closed.
