997S Insurance

Guys I need your advice again.

I've had a quote from Footman James for a 997 2006 4S of £813 based on 2k miles per annum and breakdown cover. Can you recommend other reputable companies please.

If you are a fairly standard case, my advice would be to try one or more of the aggregations web sites (MoneySuperMarket, GoCompare, etc). At the very least this should give you an idea of what the market rates are.

I'm currently with Privilege (a Direct Line brand I think), and have used Swift and eSure; all taken out after get a quote off MoneySuperMarket.

Try the Club's insurer Lockton's especially as you have a low mileage requirement. Tel 0207 933 2828

Also Marsh Private Clients on 0845 600 6502

Try them and let us know how you get on.

As above, try Porsche Insurance Services (Marsh). Just over £500 for 2010 turbo, 10k miles/annum

I am with Aviva Distinct and they are very good....mileage allowance much higher (2k seems very low...), breakdown cover, tracker not necessary, and will extend to track days.

Some insurers increase your premium for lower mileage, so as Peter says, consider one that rewards your circumstance.

Yes that did happen to me. I requested a quote at 3k miles per yr to compare to a 7k miles per yr quote. The chap tapped the change into his computer and the premium went up. I asked how can that be. The response was that below a certain mileage they consider you higher risk because you're not driving the car enough to get used to its performance. Bonkers! Not all insurers will use that algorithm, not many I hope, but if I had gone straight for an extremely low mileage assuming it was cheaper, with that particular insurer I'd have been worse off.

ManningUK is worth a check. You also get track insurance included with policy and options to reduce premium with limited miles

They are good but they have changed policy and on recent renewal I was told mileage less relevant with up to 10k miles being one price.

Al&broadway, sorry for causing confusion but I chose the login name after my recently deceased wife. I had no idea it would be used on the forum. Incidentally, I'm 61 and will be 21 next birthday with my 997!
Thanks to all for such encouraging advice and to pwebb for the phone number. I'll let you know the outcome.

We used Porsche Insurance (Marsh) on our 997.2S Cab when we bought it in the summer because their annual premium was less than the additional premium Saga wanted on changing from a Boxster.

Saga had been very good on the Boxster premium and i couldn't find anyone to beat them on premium and level of cover over a couple of years, but on the 997 they were coming out nearly double!!

Hi Guys,

Here is my update:

Porsche Insurance through Marsh and underwritten by Aviva works out at £700 with 6k miles limit and tracker activated. Without tracker £734. This includes my 20 years ncb. Excess is £430/windows £75. Guaranteed all Porsche parts and works carried out by main dealer but no agreed value.

I'm waiting for Locktons to get back to me.

The Porsche Insurance is considerably cheaper than the Footman James quote so unless Locktons quote is lower I'll go with Porsche Insurance.

Okay, Locktons have now come back to me. They quote £691.18 with 3k miles per annum and excess £250/windows £50. Legal expenses covered up to £50k (Porsche Insurance wanted £20 extra) and breakdown cover included (non with Porsche Insurance). Tracker activation not required. Agreed value based on purchase price. I can chose main dealer re repairs and, of course, genuine Porsche parts. Protected ncb.

Taking all the details into account Locktons win!!!

Thank you all. Your advice has saved me quite a sum of money. Much appreciated.

Hope this isn't too late.
My last renewal for 2007 C4S fully comp with estimated annual mileage 8000, max no claims, protected no claims, one additional driver, usual excesses, no track cover.

Clearly some differences in cover but with Tesco I paid a fraction under £220.

Paul

That sounds pretty fair - having Porsche repairs and parts essential IMO
I was with another insurer not many posts ago here and after I added the Porsche genuine parts they refused to pay for the bill ended up far greater than if I has insured with more specialised insurance - not a mistake I have made since

Paul, not too late. Others here have also mentioned Tesco. Even if your policy does not include breakdown I'd still be delighted. Can you choose OPC and parts re repairs?

I'll telephone Tesco tomorrow. It's no good me trying to do things online. I'm surprised I've made it onto this forum!

Manninguk.com - I am paying about £350 for 7,000 miles and unlimited track days. Give them a call they were super helpful.
