997S Insurance

The official Porsche tracker has it's own batteries that only last ~3yrs, I was quoted £350 by my OPC to have them replaced, worth factoring in.

Hi Giff,

Thanks. I was quoted £500 by OPC but on pre-purchase inspection they appeared okay. But you are correct to point out that sooner rather than later I'll have to consider replacements.

Tomorrow, Thursday, I'm collecting the beast! ... I've sold my pyjamas because I can't sleep due to the anticipation. I hope I can keep my license long enough to enjoy this wonderful machine.

Interesting they were able to check it was working, my OPC told me to contact a company in Ireland to see if it could be activated.

I had to pay up front and was refunded when they couldn't communicate with it. (2006 Cayman)

Manninguk.com - I am paying about £350 for 7,000 miles and unlimited track days.

That really makes me wonder why they charge me £630 for my 10-year-old always garaged limited mileage 986. I'm switching from Manning to Aviva this year and will save around £400.

Chris.

Try Porsche Insurance - Marsh. My 997 C2 Gen 2 with 8K miles year plus 2 track days etc comes to £338.44 plus £430 excess. Been with them 3 years now and way way better than Locktons who wanted £1,400 from me for the same cover.

Keep up at the back [:D]

Hi Guys,

Here is my update:

Porsche Insurance through Marsh and underwritten by Aviva works out at £700 with 6k miles limit and tracker activated. Without tracker £734. This includes my 20 years ncb. Excess is £430/windows £75. Guaranteed all Porsche parts and works carried out by main dealer but no agreed value.

I'm waiting for Locktons to get back to me.

The Porsche Insurance is considerably cheaper than the Footman James quote so unless Locktons quote is lower I'll go with Porsche Insurance.

Okay, Locktons have now come back to me. They quote £691.18 with 3k miles per annum and excess £250/windows £50. Legal expenses covered up to £50k (Porsche Insurance wanted £20 extra) and breakdown cover included (non with Porsche Insurance). Tracker activation not required. Agreed value based on purchase price. I can chose main dealer re repairs and, of course, genuine Porsche parts. Protected ncb.

Taking all the details into account Locktons win!!!

Thank you all. Your advice has saved me quite a sum of money. Much appreciated.

Some of the longest threads on the Forum are for insurance, and apart from trying the usual suspects, there seems to be no rhyme nor reason why there isn't a default broker/underwriter, but every time we open the debate there's some who have high prices from one source and low from another, and the reverse for the others. The only one that seems to be best value at the moment is Marsh for new(ish) cars.

Always a surprise what everyone else seems to be getting quoted. I am going to keep my head down here in Gloucestershire and hope the renewal in May is just as reasonable!

It all seem round about

Marsh/Performance Marque couldn't get a good quote for a new 991 TTS but AON came up with the goods a good deal/package and a reasonable price. Suppose each insurance Co has its sweet spot in terms of age and pricing. Aon said they were into more expensive cars (TTS+, Fezza's, Maclarns tc).

I've been with AON for a few years now with turbos; usually the best price or very close and a new car replacement for first two years. However I knew AON don't to track days (well not for me anyway).

So when looking for cover to include track days who should turn out best but Locktons. Having sorted cover I asked the Locktons representative why their quote for the TS had been 3 times higher than AON despite their being PCGB's partner insurer. She was refreshingly honest and said they knew they were hopelessly uncompetitive in that segement. However that is being addressed and she thought that from the beginning of next year they might be a bit more on the pace. Maybe worth a call when renewing.

Also use AON and find them the best option for road use and I also cannot get track day cover included they will cover as an extra but it was quite expensive. I have been with them for several years and I'm sure the service has been as a direct result of my account manager who has moved to a different role. He was excellent but his replacement is already given me doubts on the couple of requests I have made recently.
I also increased the value of my car during the year and they seriously increased the price out of all proportion but they stated it was because the value was now over £100k so we shall see what happens next year.

Another bid here for Porsche Insurance (Marsh). I think its with Aviva. I paid around £800 with tracker activated. I have stayed with them because if the worst should happen my car gets taken straight to Porsche.
I had a quote from Admiral for £350 but they use Just Car clinics for repairs as do a lot of insurance companies. I have seen the state of cars coming out of these repair centres. They use 2nd hand parts and put them back together with prit stick it seams. I can't think that any of you fellow enthusiasts would want your pride and joys any where near these guys. Let them stick to repairing the Kia Piccanto's etc ! . Price is important obviously but we all paid a lot of money for our cars and keeping them pristine, Our insurance is as important as the oil thats in the engine. It shouldnt be compromised.

Having had 996 and now 997 C2S Cab ..... have done the rounds of insurers, I seem to fit "run of the mill" driver, Late middle age and no points or claims. Porsche insurance good deal, but no one has ever come close to "The Post Office" ( undoubtedly underwritten by one of the main stream players ). ...... £270.00 Fully Comp, self and wife drivers, 10K annual miles £250 Excess ...... What is not to like.

My renewal with Admiral came through and after a bit of haggling i.e. informing them that their sister company were £400 cheaper, they price matched at £728. Although their policy wording (like a lot of 'big' insurers) rattles on about their approved repairers and pattern parts, you can use an OPC, but you have to get estimates and they have to approve. Unless they specifically say you have to use their approved repairers, they cannot enforce this although clearly can make life more difficult by having to approve an OPC estimate. This is likely to result in you having to get two estimates to prove their charges are consistent at which point they would have to authorise. Further, they do not offer track days so off I went to find a new insurer...

I've worked in the industry for 15 years in various roles (including being the motor underwriting manager for a large direct insurer) and can honestly say, this is the first time I can relate to people's frustrations with insurers. Locktons were coming in at £2.7k, Marsh refused to quote and another company (AIB) were £1.5k but no track days. Several others were also well over £2k. There will always be a difference in price between insurers and you can normally expect one to be significantly higher, but for the majority to be over £2k when the 'big' insurers were under £1k doesn't really stack up to me (well it does, but I won't bore you all with the various reasons why).

Great news for those who can go with the likes of Marsh and Locktons at premiums comparable to some of the insurers whose claim service won't be as good. For those in a similar position to me, I would stress to read the policy wording and question the insurer. They will always try to recommend you use their approved repairer network, but this is in most cases not mandatory although you will have to do some leg work. Unfortunately, I've got little choice other than to do that leg work in the event of the worst, but even for my pride and joy, can't justify a difference of £2k. Even independent track day insurers will only cover £50 per hour labour rates so also no good.

Porsche Insurance Services (Marsh) is the one to try. Lockton is also worth giving a ring. I have been with PIS for over two years and my premiums have been ok for my highish risk area ---- circa £780 for 997S.

For info (I know I'm a few months down the road with this one) - I have just insured a 2006 911 997 turbo full comp all protected for £297
with Admiral, I'm 42 years old. Absolute bargain. I am now off to the nearest Macdonald's to tell all the spotty boy racers that congregate
there just how cheap it is to insure my car and laugh at them. Who said getting old is bad!!!

42 old? Crikey, no hope for the rest of then! Is that a limited mileage and what excess? Mine came in a just over £400 with 10k miles, protected no claims, legal cover and £450 excess - which I considered to be a bargain too!
