997tt v dbs

In a straight line (with no road cambers) you can floor it from say 30mph to 130mph - on the Milbrook straight - with no hands on the steering wheel! Same for braking. The only way you could lose control is if you were accelerating through a tight corner (thus reducing grip available for cornering) or the road surface had very little traction, you had 2 wheel drive and had PSM off. On dry flat smooth warm tarmac in a straight line with PSM on I think it's practically impossible to lose control of a 997 (especially a sure footed 4wd one) when accelerating from 5 to 70mph unless a tire blew out or you hit something (then it's more to do with velocity than acceleration).

ORIGINAL: ngm2360 . Fair enough but accelerating at that pace could cause you to lose control of your vehicle sir;
And that decision is based on...........? A thorough knowledge of every vehicle's handling characteristics and the driver's experience and prowess no doubt![:D] Definitely wrong side of the bed job.

ORIGINAL: Alex L On the way to my gym last night in my RS6 I stopped next to a gen2 997 Turbo at some traffic lights. Now this is dual carriageway, so 70mph limit, nothing in front of us, straight road for about a half a mile. 3 lanes width... So basically the only real world scenario where a new 997 Turbo could use launch control.... So I think, right lets not floor it but zip off and see if he follows me. So I accelerate, not in sport mode, about 3/4 throttle, 0-60 around 5 secs ish. And..... nothing! The guy could have got away from the lights quicker in a Pruis. I don't advocate street racing but a little zip up to 60mph, not even at full power, should be no big deal. Once rolling in 1st I always zip of the line in my Turbo in such circumstances even if nobody else is there! What a waste of a nice car!
Perhaps the oil wasn't warm! I get tempted nearly every day to move away swiftly from the lights on the inside lane of our dual carriageway as some moron (often in Chelsea Tractor) tries to muscle me off the road but as this is literally in the first few minutes from cold I resist the temptation. Coming home is different........
