Hi and Welcome
I've no idea about either the south east nor turbos, but there are plenty on here who do!

300bhp is easy enough using a late model 250bhp 944 turbo. Re-map, DPW and a manual boost controller should put you well on your way. You will need a good wastegate to hold boost in the high RPM's. My car is a 220hp model with a Promax Level 2 kit, it was dynoed at 275bhp@1 Bar. The boost tails off at higher RPM's to about 0.7 bar at the redline. If it could hold 1 bar to the redline I think it would make 300bhp easily. I'm not sure whats causing the boost to drop but I guess its either the wastegate spring being overcome or the turbo running out of puff. I did here the turbo should support 300bhp at its limit.

Promax stage 2 kit is about 1300 supplied and fitted:
DPW, 3 bar fuel reg DME/ECU chips. This will get you to about 300 assuming your engine is fit to begin with. If you are on an old head gasket you won't be for long!
Jon Mitchell in Bournemouth is the other well known name in this area. He has an upgrade price list on his website - but its dangerous to your wallet to read it for too long......

The above suggestion is an effective way of increasing the performance of the car - the increase in torque making the biggest difference.
On a standard 944 Turbo, the boost is set to peak at 0.7 bar and drop off to 0.5 bar at (near) max RPM (5,000 rpm on the 220bhp model). The K26/#6 has a smaller turbine that is not suited to generating high boost (the smaller turbine is less prone to lag though). The K26/#8 has an 8cm turbine housing and will generate higher boost more efficiently at higher RPM. The 250bhp cars hence generate more power becuase the engine management maintains the peak boost for longer, but it too will drop to .5 bar (just higher up the RPM range).
With the level 2 kit from ProMAX, 1.2 bar is possible (depending on the selected map), but it will fall away quickly after 5,000 RPM. Using an EBC (Electronic Boost Controller) will hold the boost for longer - but the back pressure and small turbine will create so much heat that power will fall away fast.
To hold high levels of boost without drop off will require a larger turbine (such as a #10) - but this will create more lag.
Anyway, getting back to yout question an L2 kit is a quick and efficient way (and very well proven over the last 6 years) to increase the performance of your 944 Turbo.

Andrew

L2 kit is £799 + fitting. Standard head gasket is fine. If it needs replacing, that's typically 10+ hours labour.
Check compression is equal across all 4 cylinders (should be ideally 140psi +) and that you have no boost leaks (pressure test the whole inlet system forward of the turbocharger).

Andrew

Hi yes getting a turbo modded to those sorts of figures is definetly worth it both for the greater power output and the vastly increased driveability it delivers. I personally went the Promax route with both my cars and have been very happy with the results. There are others offering a similar service such as JMG who are also top notch.
As for more general work, depends where you are in the Southeast. I generally drive over to Promax for all my work, but also at times have used Autostrasse in Essex who are excellent.

Simples - buy an S2. Power figures are immaterial - they are MUCH quicker. []

great response on here thanks, im based in hemel hempstead just round the corner from jz, think i would prob end up using promax for regular servicing and poss jz for emergency stuff( touches wood) . car is on for £7500 and im thinking of keeping aside 2.5k for some nice cup alloys and some sensible mods. drove car the other day and found it reaaly god fun seemed a lot quicker than the s2cab i had a few years back.

Just for the sake of balance I went to Jon at JM garage for my tuning and can confirm his tuning abilities are pretty impressive too. For 300hp any one of the people mentioned in this thread are perfectly capable of sorting your car right and if you thought the car was good standard[
] boy are you going to be impressed by the difference the chip makes on a 250 car![

no criticism of JZ or Promax, as I have no experience with them, but being in Hemel you are right on the doorstep of RPM near Tring. i have been using them for the last 4 years or so, even though the journey is an hour each way. Great guys who really know our cars.
With some reluctance I am probably going to have to go elsewhere this time around due only to the hassle of getting there and back (Darren, if you happen to read this you really need to get some old nail of a courtesy car [
]). I would feel less guilty about switching my allegiance if someone else were to replace my custom at RPM!
