been thinking of trying one of these for a while and for the money had nothing to loose
I eventually fitted one of these this eve what a great result its not the claimed 15 odd extra bhp but the actual running and idleing , the car runs so much smoother the gear changes are without any stutter and when cold on first start theres no rough idleing like i had berfore

cant belive the diffence to be honest i put the other running down to poor sensor or somthing but all seems fine and very easy to install as well

dont be put off by the price of 42.50 for my particular version

Paul,

Been thinking about one of these myself, can you keep us updated with how it fares over a couple of weeks or so?

no poblem ill keep ypu all posted tbh yes i agree the fueling might be an issue ( not confirmed ) but the smooth running and all the pro's on face value far out weigh the cons of just fuel economy

I've been running one of these in my S2 for the last couple of months. I found similar results when fitted - smoother running, pick up off idle seemed sharper, not sure about BHP gains but seems to want to rev more readily and due to smoother running I'm now making full use of S2's grunt and saving gear change effort on the open roads!

I took the plunge with accell (via ebay) as seemed worth a punt given relatively little cost. Not disappointed so far! Hope this is useful feedback guys.

Fitted one to my 87 Lux a few months ago as for the price, nothing to lose. Noticed all the same benefits.Car runs smoother, much better at slow speed around town. Increased rev limit improves 0 to 60 time by eliminating gearchange into 3rd. Seems to pull better than before though haven't done any quantitative comparisons. The car definitely seems to run better with it, I'm well pleased.

I've had one these Accellracing chips in my S2 for almost 3 years & I'm very pleased. Smoother & noticeably quicker, especially if I fill up with super unleaded. No detrimental effect on fuel economy.

well just an update all seems realy fine after a while the running settled down even more runs fantastic cant belive with such a small tweak and minimal cost i got this result , i reset everything to try a guage economy and so far have seen no difference at all , if you have poor running and lumpy gear changes try one of these i allways thought it was down to a sensor or somthing and was prepared to live with.

Hi Guys,

I have recently become a 944S owner (previous owned for 6 years by a member on here actually) and after reading this thread I thought, this is what I need, but I wonder if you can help.
I have found the seller on fleabay but they ask for the Bosche part number off the ECU so I went out to look, removed the wooden floor plate only to find a black framework hinding what looks like the ECU.
Do I need to unscrew the framework in order to see the number they want or am I looking in the wrong place?

Sorry if this does seem a simple but I am a newbie so please bear with me lol

Cheers
Simon

Yes it's on the back of that black frame which is help in place by some large flat black plastic screws.

When you undo them, you'll probably be covered in a maze of wires that are all bundled up behind the plate. They do all fit back in there but sometimes you wonder what you've started [8|]

Not sure I agree with the "They're cheap so i've got nothing to loose" philosophy when it comes to ECU chips. In fact with incorrect fuelling and ignition maps potentially you have your engine to lose. However in this case it seems to have been a good punt.

I'd agree - I'd worry about the quality of anything on e-bay. Not to say there aren't good deals out there, but if there are chips from trusted companies available cheaply just how much money are you saving by going down the unproven route?

Thanks for the reply Paul, much appreciated.
I will have another look tomorrow in the daylight, I did think maybe it would be more obvious and maybe I was looking in the wrong place at first.

So is the general consensus of opinion that it's only been positive, for those who have had it fitted?

Cheers

Yes, but how many miles of testing have been done? I'm sure they're fine, you takes your chances. Or, go for one of the long-standing companies who have a proven track record with the 944. I can't personally recommend anyone because I won't show favoritism but I'm sure that there are other people happy to suggest a good company to try.
