My business, (that I haven't pushed) is clear from my avatar isn't it?

But - there is a "no advertising" rule on this forum that includes avatars and signatures. Lots of people ignore it, and it can help if someone has a specialist knowledge that might be relevant to their posts, but officially it's discouraged to avoid a free-for-all advertising forum.

Not being heavy - I could care less [:)] - but I guess I should take my moderator role seriously occasionally!

So it is...lol it's been a long day.
I have updated my avata and signature to comply now.

I will change it to my car when i get round to taking some photos.

Thanks for that- but now I feel guilty!

There was a discussion a while back about throwing the forums open to any advertising, on the basis that you'd know where people were coming from. I'd agree with that, but changing the rules might be a long process and I've not got the will to start that battle!

Getting back to the subject of the thread, if you e-mail the guy who is selling the chips I think you will find he gives a very honest appraisal of his products. If you care to look at the advert on ebay you'll also see this.
[FONT=verdana, geneva"]We offer a full money back guarentee with our chips.

He's got my vote. Mine arrived today, next day delivery and with very detailed fitting instructions. Can't wait to get the car taxed next month and give it a try!

Money back guarantee? So basically he'll refund you the cost of the chips if your engine was to get trashed by poor fuelling or ignition mapping!

Hi,

I did email the guy and he sounds a resonable chap, he claims to be a 964 owner himself.
I was just hoping to get some reassurance from anyone that has been using a chip for some time that's all I guess.

Looking at his ads I'd consider the 924S chip for a Lux - it's cheaper.....[&:]

If you look in people's signatures many have chips that they've been running for years, many tens of thousands of miles and dyno readings to show the real improvements. I'd have to say that for a little bit more I'd prefer the peace of mind.

having just read this thread does anyone know how the chips were developed - or are they just copies of other ones?

The thing that worries a lot of us about chips is where they come from.

There are three ways I can think of making a chip to sell:

First one, is to take an example of the car and run it for hours on a dyno and road whilst tweaking the settings. You'd need to be a little conservative with the final chip to ensure that difference tolerances of engine are safe with it. You'd almost certainly want to try it in a couple of other cars to ensure it's safe too.

Secondly, take the standard code that the car came with and just massage the fuelling on your computer based on guesstimates (using the same equipment in point three below). It would save you many hours of expensive dyno time but I can't see this working unless you knew the engine characteristics very well.

Third, this is the really easy one. Take someone elses chip (naturally this could be authorised or not). Buy an Eprom reader/writer (from £15-30 on eBay) and some spare chips (I paid a pound each for the last few I bought) and copy them. This takes only seconds and would be very profitable.

I am talking generally here, and not specifically referring to the eBay seller that the thread is about, but with any chip I'd be asking the seller a lot of questions about how they were developed. The lack of explanation I've seen in some eBay ads do concern me, as you'd have thought you'd want to make a big point about the hours of development that went into a good original code.

Lol! You were thinking the same as me but were a faster typer [;)]
