Ace Cafe Wednesday 29th August

to find that the tyre had indeed parted company with its air.

Ouch, could have been nasty [] Well you did say earlier that you soon needed four new tyres, so at least that's one out of the way. I wish I could have made the convoy to the London Eye, but I'm glad I went straight home to be tucked up in bed at 11:30 (I hate the overnight M1 lane closures [])

Nice to meet Patrick and chew the 944 cud with a new face (as well as all of you with your old faces :ROFLMAO:)

Was that really Robin Walker doing burnouts in the supercharged 924 V8? [;)]

I didn't get to chat to Patrick really.....appart to establish what a "Tall & frosty" was [:D]. Despite getting there not long after 6:00 the four hours before the run seemed to evaporate - I didn't even see Fin until minutes before the off.

Spent a bit of time talking to Steve - perhaps I could absorb (or steal) some of his inner guitar talent. If he wasn't such a nice person you could hate him - he started playing at around 16 and was in Marillion at 19. Ha! I bet I've been in more bands than he has then. [&:] And I bet he hasn't played support for Chas & Dave [&:]

A great turn out of 944's and most of them didn't wimp out on the London Eye raid. [;)]

I didn't get home until after 1:00.[/color]

I can beat that. 00:40 on a very quiet M4 just past junction 5 I edged up to 70 and a bit (there is a rumour of the bit being 40, but of course that isn't true officer...) by way of sighting for an intended low-altitude flight to the lovely Swindon Ibis. All of a sudden there was a loud bang followed by several beeps from the dash and the tyre pressure light came on, in red. I coasted to jn6 off slip and got out to find that the tyre had indeed parted company with its air. Audi don't supply a spare (that space is needed for fuel, after all) and a bottle of sealant and a compressor weren't going to make a dent on an instant deflation at 70 and a bit mph (or not) followed by a couple of miles running flat, so I ended up gettting relayed to Swindon by the AA and ariving at 04:10 and then I had to lever £238 out of my wallet in Swindon Audi this morning for a P Zero Rosso.

I have to say that unlucky as it is to have the first total loss puncture in years at closing on 1am on the motorway on a night when I wasn't going home in a car with no spare it was also lucky in that no animals were harmed, nor indeed expensive rear quarter panels nor even arch liners. In terms of stability I have to say that had the car behaved like that with a tyre suddenly deflating at 110mph I'd be impressed. Of course I wasn't going that fast..

Sorry Fen,

I didn't know it was you got stranded otherwise I would have stopped and keep you company. All I could see when I got off the J5 in split second was an estate parked on the hard shoulder and a chap wearing a light reflective jacket under very dim light.

Next time maybe ...

Hi guys. My first time at a pc since Wed nite and just wanted to say thanks to all who came to say hello and it was great to put a few faces to the avatars as it were. I'm very sorry I vanished so suddenly. I was very near to where I was staying in London and when you guys decided to move on from the London Eye I thought as I could walk back to the flat that I should take the opportunity. It happened all rather quickly and Nick was having to leave rapidly to catch up with the rest of the pack, there I was ready to walk. I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye and felt rude but it all happened quite quickly so my apologies again.
I would have liked to chat for some time longer but it was fun to catch up all the same. Nice bunch of lads + some super cars capped off with a fun ride into town with Nick at the helm of his fun trackday 993. Might have to get me one of those one of these days. Thanks also to Nick for ferrying me around and picking me up from the station. Nice driving too. It's good to be in the hands of someone who is obviously a good steerer as we say down under. Fen, thanks for coming down especially too. It was great to meet and sorry we couldn't talk more. I'll be checking on your progress into NZ and will quite likely see you over there in the not too distant future. Oh and John, the 'Tall and frosty' one is just a reference to a nice 'COLD' beer.[:D] That warm ale must be an aquired taste.
Well I'm back off to OZ nest week, and should pick my car up with a new custom front mount i/c. That hopefully will make a bunch of difference to the efficiency of the car. I shall report back when I can.

Was good to meet you Patrick, there was so much to talk about but one way or the other the evening went by very quickly. You were a very welcome passenger and sorry for the quick goodbye, if I had realised how close it was I would have hung around a bit longer. Was good to see all the regular faces, hopefully next time we meet the 968 will be ship shape! Good fun blasting into London with so many Porsches at night, we should do it more often :)

Sounds like everyone had a great time at Ace and liked the run to the eye too. Always looking for more idea to make Ace more happening (not that it isn't) so feel free to private mail me or just drop a note on the forum with ideas. We have done tunnel runs in East London (Limehouse, Rotherhite, Blackwall) Saturday early in the morning and afternoon for the last two years doing that after Ace is also possible but the only problems is the traffic is London is still very active till midnight. Location parking is also important as there are cameras all over which will drop you a post if you pull over on a red route at any time...

See you all at Ragley!
