Advice on non RS question - Work related

Hi Guys ,in my line of work i meet people with situations like urs every day......................15 years ago i found myself at almost 50 the same way .............................luckily couple of quid from employer to see me on my way .

I know ur all younger than i was and many things as u ve observed seem attractive until u delve into them ...............if u can find something associated with what u ve been doing where u still have connections or basic skills/knowledge although it may not be ideal for the complete lifestyle change it may provide a basis for an income most of us need..........................open for flaming here but dont kid urseleves very little, if anything, provides the moeny u can pick up in the Square Mile [or Canary bl....y Wharf] once u make the cut thats it........................i was lucky a company took me in with promise of training in allied field to what id done for 30 odd years around the Global Markets ................what they really did was try and filch all my contacts ,[ pointless as by definition they were mine made of many years work] and then spit me out in bubbles .........it all worked in my favour , i learnt a new job ,at their expense , mainly what not to do and left to start my own business..........................one thing shocked me setting up on my own, how quickly , what i perceived as small bills, add up if ur working and the income flow is small or start up non existant...............................................by the time all this happened kids were grown up , mortgage very small etc all helped keep stress at bay ......................

So thats Company of 2000 people to virtually one man band and still doing track days !

i dont wish to be presumptious and because i am still involved in the City may be pointless if u REALLY want out completely................however have an office 2/3 days a weekin The Bermuda Triangle alwayus happy to have a glass of red ...............................good luck

Possible. Like the coat but I have bad shoulders so holding my arms out like that might be a pain.

Crikey Vic, the Bermuda Triangle! Nothing quite like vanishing in there with a bottle of rose on a summers day... not been unknown to land there myself when I'm back in town.

Well boys, I sort of came about this a different way, got to a natural break, enough cash to see me thru a few months and took a clean break. Helped a mate launch a new company or two, found some sponsors, went racing. Did 3 years and realised I missed the old challenges and keeping the sponsors happy/ finding new ones was tougher than working for a living and spending my own money! The difference being I had income in the off season if I actually had a job!

In end, I went back to pretty much what I'd done before, but on my own terms. Because I'd proved to myself I could live outside it and HAVING THE BIG JOB wasn't actually life or death as I'd thought previously I was happy to define my own terms. Set up home in the South of France, commuted in to London 4 days a week or less, got the work/life balance a bit better sorted and found because I felt I was master of my own destiny that I enjoyed it 1000% more than before.

Guess my point is, don't be afraid to walk away for a while, but also don't be afraid to go back to what you know but on a different footing. I actually make more money and work considerably less hours than I did before my stint at being a pro driver, and REALLY enjoy what I do (most of the time!).

Bonne chance!
Rick

Good points Vic, partic about keeping in your known field.......a bit of history..........made redundant from industrial roofing company in 1994 (no package but they let me chase sales and get commission for a month!!) and as I left the meeting in company car, filled up with fuel on company card, made a few calls on company phone, and within days 'Dr. Damp' independant specialist was born and didn't look back for at least ten years until the transport business started to take over......[:)]

FREEDOM!!!

Trust me.............[:D]

Must admit, I used to get some very dodgy spam mail.....[8|]

Today I narrowed down some of my aims for new job...

1. has to be outside (at least not in an office all day)

2. has to not involve lenghty time on a computer

3. would like it to involve helping/educating others, preferably kids

Not bad for nearly a year off! [:D]

I'll try and come up with another tomorrow[:)]
A friend of mine who is an accountant by profession was the Financial Director of a subsidiary of a blue chip company, on a salary of around £150K - £200K until a few years ago when he decided he had had enough of the pressures of the corporate world. He left that job and started a gardening business, providing gardening services for clients with large gardens in this part of Cheshire (and there are quite a few obviously). He says it's the best thing he's ever done! The business employs him and one of his sons and two other guys, and occasionally he takes on a work experience person (there's the education bit). He enjoys it, can do as he pleases, and has a generally more relaxed and healthy lifestyle!

Hahaha, that reminded me of when my ex-wife was a nurse and one day introduced me to one of her colleagues in gyneacology whose name was Jenny Taylor! I failed to keep my face straight! LOL

When I used to work in a bank we used to have a customer who would come in and draw cash off his credit card. His name on his card always made me smile......Robin Banks !

My favourite was Mrs Wardrobe though.
