After-Market Steering Wheels.

Opinions? I'll open by stating that I prefer a Momo Monte Carlo, which was offered as a dealer option on all 944s (at a ridiculous cost btw: far more than its retail cost and you lost your original 360mm or 380mm sport wheel too [which is STILL a £650 part!]).

I have a brand new 1989 Monte Carlo, but unfortunately it has red leather over a black centre. It matches the car, its correct in a number of ways, but its far from ideal.

I'm on the lookout for a Club Sport wheel myself. I don't like the way the stock wheel feels. Or looks.

I really like the Momo Prototipo wheel too, but am not sure it will suit the car so well. Mind you, of anyone has a suitable wheel going for reasonable money, I might be interested...

I think the Monte Carlo is lovely. Not seen a red one though.... and the idea of a red one doesn't really appeal. [&:]

I put a Momo Fighter into our S2 - see here > CLICK and thought it a big ergonomic /& aesthetic improvement over the lozenge. I'm probably in a minority over the opinion on the aesthetic however. [:D] Cost me a total of £130 for brand new wheel & boss from memory - was certainly sinificantly less than a CS wheel.

The Prototypo is a re-issue of a 60s/70s wheel: I like it too, but I think that it suits other models better. The reason that I still have this unused Monte Carlo is because of its colour... I also have a pair of Momo Races, both of which looked good in a stripped out car, but neither of which really suit a fully trimmed series two, I dont think.

I have a Momo race which is very nice to use but not terribly pretty, I have been looking at another Momo wheel and this thread prompted me to have a look for it and it seems to have been discontinued. I can't remember the number (0. something I think) but it's very similar to the suede cup wheel (a sort of modern Prototipo I suppose) without the Porsche logo or huge price tag. Think I'll have to try to hunt one down now!

Of the two Races that I have, by far the nicest to use is a 320mm thick leather rimmed wheel, but it has a rather loud anodised red centre. It can be quitened down a little by using the grey trim ring from the other Race, but thatll prevent me from using the Momo Porsche crest horn push (which has a large collar).....

I wish that I hadnt sold the wheel off my old Club Sport now.....

I have a momo - was on the car when I bought it. It is a lovely wheel to use.

These are some pics of my old one, now replaced with a near brand new one bought off ebay for £30! [:D]

I have a similar suede rimmed wheel. Itd be perfect if it was leather! As it is I only use it when I will be wearing gloves.

The lozenge wheel suits the car well, but is not that great to use. I changed mine for an aftermarket wheel from eBay a couple of years ago, and it's a great improvement. It was just under £20 for the wheel, and the boss another £20 or so.

I don't know what make it is, but it's similar to the Momo Fighter mik_ok posted the link to. (Do Momo wheels have 'Momo' stamped on them anywhere?)

In my experience pretty much all Momo wheels are good to use, so you are choosing diameter and style. And whether it's leather or suede finish as well. And colour, now you come to mention it ...

My old one is almost smooth now - so if you want a leather version.....[;)]

I think you're refering to the Momo 007 wheel Peter, which is almost identical to the OMP Corsica wheel which I have on my car. It's a dished 3-spoker in suede and looks and feels fantastic. Being quite deeply dished it also brings the wheel closer to your chest, which I found gave a much improved driving position - takes time to get used to 'stretching' for the indicators though! I now have a Porsche centre part also, to complete the look.

I have the Momo Prototipo, I think it suits a 944 with black interior perfectly, and I often get asked what steering wheel it is.

Bear in mind that in this picture the steering wheel has been turned a 1/2 turn to the left.

Mine is a Momo manufactured part. Oli, a Momo wheel will certainly have the Momo namestyle and 'Made in Italy' along with a type mumber and the manufacturing date written on the rear of the spokes: and usually have Momo embossed on the front too.

In order to bring the wheel close, which I need as Im 6' 3", I use a Sparco 60m spacer.

Thanks Simon.

Means my wheel isn't a Momo item. (Doesn't make it any less nice to use, and for £18 I wonder why I expected it!)

This is the Indinapolis wheel that came with my car, looks and feels good but as I'm a purist I've put the OEM wheel back on, even though I prefer the Indy wheel.

Thanks Ben, that sounds right to me. I'll have a look at the Corsica too then, for some reason I thought there was less of a dish to the Momo one which would suit me as I have short legs.

It has not - it's approx 100deg to the left. If it had been turned a 1/2 turn you wouldn't need to tell us whether it was left or right. [;)]
