Aftermarket Chips - Ideas?

Hello again

One for mildly tuned turbo users this time. I am currently running Promax L2 chips which I am happy with. I also run a scivision maf so I do not have any idle mixture adjustment. I am also currently suffering from my ICV needing a proper clean and as a result my car is idling around 12/12.5 on the AFR gauge. All is good on throttle. When the ICV is properly cleaned I expect the car will idle around 13's as it previously did.

I have noticed a GURU racing chipset on ebay and in the blurb it says that "unlike other aftermarket chipsets your car will not idle rich with our chips" or something like that. Anyway what are the thoughts on Promax vs GURU racing chips? They are currently a bargain and if I thought I could change over chips (and they were decent) and my idle would lean out a bit I would give it a go?

Thanks again in advance

Stuart

Talked to Augment Automotive? They've had a lot of press recently regarding tuning 944's. Mine will go there this year for a few bits and rolling road tuning but until then I've no personal experience of their work although impressed with the nature of discussions with them to date.

Cheers

I would happily take one of their ecu's but was more looking for a quick cheap fix for an idle issue and at 99p for the chips that fits the description! I am happy with how my car goes currently but would like it to idle a bit leaner.

May well go for a full augment set-up at some point but not right now.

Cheers

Correct me if I am wrong, but at 99p, surely it is worth trying them, and if it doesn't improve it put your old chips back in, and the new ones back on Ebay? You have and AFR meter, so can ensure nothing is going to do any damage, and as you say, it could be an easy fix... If nothing else, you will have a direct seat of the pants dyno comparison of the two.

I'm no great shakes with the spanners but don't turbos need a slightly rich mixture to lubricate the valves?
Cheers

Yeah but not at idle! A car should idle not far of stoic which is 14.7, turbo or not. Mine always hovered around 13 which was not the end of the world but it had started idling around mid 11's before I cleaned the ICV with some carb cleaner. It's now low to mid 12's. If I could get it back to 13's I'd be content.

Tref - spot on. Was just curious that in the write up for the chips they claim to make the car idle leaner and better than other aftermarket chips. The bid may well exceed 99p but for a nominal fee nothing to lose as you say.

My car is spot on whilst on throttle and through the rev range so the issue I have is the ICV or the idle map on the promax chips, maybe both. Was curious if anybody else had ran the GURU chips and possibly even whose maps they are and what sort of rep they have.

Cheers

Sorry can't help, the only modified chips in my S2 come with salt and vinegar or without s&v [:D]

My S2 runs apprx 2 bar all day with no problems

In old money tyre pressures that equates to about 30psi ! [;)]

My car runs a Wayne Schofield map, i have an AFR gauge fitted near enough 14.7 stoic on tickover and off throttle 11/12 on boost, Wayne Schofield is the man, needs to save my pennies for one of those Augment ECU's from Tom.

The Guru chips will make no difference - their idle maps are the same as the Promax ones.

Cheers GPF! That is the info I was after!

LT - You are correct, was just a thought.

Scott - Points to my ICV then. Already on the case with that.

Cheers

This - my car had been fettled by Chipwizards and it made a huge difference. Money well spent !

An ebay chip is the last thing I'd want managing my fuelling, unless it's a legit suppliers ebay shop. I'm still running a 90's original BBR starchip that came already installed in the car, fairly sure it's running plenty rich when I get flames every 5-10 gear changes :)

Found a set of these in mine too when I went to fit the Promax chips.
