Air conditioning - std or auto

Thanks Dapster that makes me feel a whole lot better! They look the biz dont they....wonder if the OPC will let me add them? I'm gonna call now, see ya. Harry

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I have paid my 10% today and can now officially join the ranks of Porsche owners. Boxster due in March. As for the spec I have decided to drop the auto air con and possibly the changer although the OPC will need to check whether I am still on spec hold next week before confirming this.

Nice one Paul, just out of interest which colour did you choose? I found the clour choice limited and actually preffered the non-metallic red to all others but went for a metallic (Lapis Blue) for re-sale.
Cheers, Harry

Have gone for Seal Grey with black hood and black partial leather. Had several black and silver cars and thought this would be a good compromise. Should look good with the 18" rims.

I like the auto function but it should really be a standard feature rather than a pricey option. If faced with a choice to make, I'd rather get heated seats for the money than the auto AC. In a cabriolet, seat heating is godly.

Have fun specc'ing and ordering. :)

I do have to ask why people would spec parking sensors, dont they look a little naff to say the least?

I've seen 2 versions of the parking sensors. The earlier version looks like the car's bumper is infected with the measles. The newer version is a lot more discreet.
Either way I'd never get it, I couldn't stand the constant beeping.
Have you ever noticed how cars with parking sensors invariably have damaged or scratched bumpers?

Well, apart from it being more difficult....[;)] You are filling the garage with exhaust fumes (not so bad these days, but still not good). Not only gassing yourself, but not a great thing to concentrate in the air and let settle on the paintwork. Much healthier all round to drive in forwards [:D]

I think it is because of fumes build up but also reversing the car in causes dust etc from the floor to be stirred up and deposited on the car!

I've not bothered with it - in my old 986 i always ran it in auto but had to constantly adjust the temperature up and down, 20'C was too much some days, not enough on others. Maybe the 'solar ' sensor was faulty but it was like this form day one and i never bothered to ask (had the same isse with MB and BMW systems before also). With the top down i used 27'C, on central vents and fan speed 2 anyway (ie in manual)

On the 987 you still get the same button count, but the 'auto' button is labelled 'max'. The display consists of two scaled bars, one for temp and one for fan speed.

I figured i'd be adjusting just as a much with the suto upgrade so saved £325 :D

When i've looked at showroom / demo cars at least 1/3rd have not had auto air con

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Auto a/c has always worked fine for me, on my previous 986 and current 987. I find that when the sun is bright it adjusts without my intervention, which is something less to think about when you're enjoying a quick drive.

Park assist has saved me on several occasions in car parks where backing out of a space can involve looking two ways at once. A few beeps or a big dent - no contest, surely!

If cash is tight then sacrifice your hard-ride cosmetic 19" wheels for something really useful, and get change.

I've got the parking sensors on order. I wrestled with it for a long while. I don't suppose James Dean would have had them on his 550 if they'd been invented. But then I remembered that I've reversed the Mercedes into 2 cars (at low speed) and one bollard in the local private hospital. At >£1000 for a new bumper and re-spray it seemed to make sense. As for auto-aircon, got in our Volvo V70 T5, wife likes it but in the usual way I have it set to 18 degrees or 26 depending on the weather! So as you can guess I didn't bother.

Roll on March the 1st.

Is the display different depending on whether I go auto or manual air con? Does anyone have images?

Paul
