Airbag Light

yeah i agree and if it is an airbag fault i'll know and get it fixed the aim of the durametric is to self diagnose as i don't think you trust the opc! it arrives on monday so I'll report back as soon as i know (also - someone sold a durametric for £175 on ebay yesterday so if i decide to sell it i should get my money back - also durametric only charge 30% if you want to send it back after you have re-set your codes - will probably keep it though) cheers s2rjn

Sounds a useful thing to have anyway ... Luckily I have a friend who works for Porsche who is allowed to 'borrow' the OPC machine, plus the garage I go to (not OPC if I can help it) are friendly enough to plug in there's for free Good luck on the diagnosis My fault ignition switch caused havoc .... killed the new battery, and set the alarm off at 3-00am in the morning .... nightmare ... pleased it was a simple fix

TimEwins, thats exactly what we are trying to do - establish the fault, If its just the light that is a bother then the bulb can come out. If the airbag module was faulty it would fault as soon as the reset was done - and would give a code, but on these cars we kinda get used to what usually triggers a fault light, and from the start of this thread we have worked on getting the fault code

Hi All I have now used the duremetric software and cleared the errors and re-set the service light the fault code I saw was this: -------------------------------------- 8008 Drivers Front Airbag Stage 2 Above upper limit --------------------------------------- C152 Melding timeout psm steuergerat --------------------------------------- I now deleted the error so the airbag light is no longer lit Does anyone know what this error means? And have an idea as to how long it would take the OPC to fix? Cheers all S2RJN

There is a reference on RennTech which is similar: [link=http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17305]http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17305[/link] Unfortunately I don't think there is a list of the 987/997 error codes that were available for the 986/996. All this information is on the PIWIS tester, but you have to plug it in, retreive the fault code, and then it will display the details and give a troubleshooting guide. You might want to drop an email to Duram at Durametric (Yes, that really is his name) as he is generally very helpful and may have some more information.

he just replied but they can't tell me as they only have the codes for the 986's not the 987's :( it was worth a try can anyone else help cheers s2rjn

according to BMW: the control unit receives information as to whether the seat belt is buckled from a switch in the belt buckle. based on this buckle monitoring function the control unit decides whether the belt tensioners need to be triggered in the event of a crash and whether the airbag needs to be triggered at stage 1 (seat belt not buckled) or stage 2 (seat belt buckled)

OK Thanks - is BMW the same system as ours? I doubt it but maybe Anyone else have a clue what the fault -code means? Cheers S2RJN
