Alternator problem

I guess we are fortunate that someone in Poland bothers to recon our units - goodness knows how much it would cost to manufacture replacements at very low volume.

My alternator went a few years back (completely seized). I got a recon one put on (which has been just fine). In the very cold weather in Jan (-16C according to the digital thermometer I left in the car) it started getting a little teeny bit sluggish starting. Still fired up after a second at -16C, but it didn't seem happy for a few seconds. Then the weather picked up, starting up got a bit better but still wasn't 100%. I thought the battery must be on it's way out. Then my clutch went, got that sorted then the alternator belt started making noise (which I thought was the new clutch at first). Checked the belts before taking it back in, and the alternator belt was flapping around a bit. Not a lot, but it was moving around.

When the new alternator was fitted (along with the pulley upgrade) it had been fractionally overtightened. Not so much that it didn't last a few years, but eventually the belt weakened enough to get a trifle floppy.

My indie sorted it out free, they said it should have been spotted at the last service in Dec or when the clutch was fitted in Jan.
