And so to Cadwell...

Did a track day at Cadwell Park in my Turbo yesterday - what a track! Lovely setting and challenging circuit with a good mix of corners and speeds. There were 74 cars in an open pitlane format so it was pretty busy at times, and there were a considerable number of track closures due to accidents. The car performed faultlessly again, proving fast and great fun sliding about everywhere. Nasty moment on the way home though, and very lucky it didn't happen on track - driving along at about 30mph (luckily) and the front left caliper suddenly came lose! I thought I had a puncture at first, and the noise was the rim on the road, but it was the caliper rubbing on the inside of the wheel. Of course, at the same time the brake pipe snapped, losing all the fluid, and I couldn't stop the car with the brakes, just had to roll to a halt. Managed to get the wheel off and it looks like the caliper simply wasn't bolted in tight enough. The screws/bolts haven't sheered at all, they just came off! I had them refurbed about 6 months ago by a specialist, do I have a strong case for them to make any repairs free of charge do you think?

Will post some piccies later...

Cheers, Ben

I think you are being very restrained about it. If you or anyone else has not touched the brakes since they " refurbed" them then I would have been on their case ( pleasantly in the first instance ) at 0900 this morning. A fix free of charge should be the least they should be thinking of doing if they wish to preserve their reputation - the results of what appears to be their incompetence could have been horrendous.

Just my view of course

I probably wouldnt mention the track day though. Many garages use this as an excuse to deny liability.

I hate to think what could have happened at Cadwell - braking into the hairpin or even Hall bends (or anywhere really...) You were very lucky

I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's a terrific track. Cadwell has one of my favourite (if not my favourite) corners - Coppice. Incredibly quick but doesn't look it at first & takes a lot of nerves to get round at speed.[:D] I'm on the reserve list for a day there on the 28th.

Should have an update tomorrow hopefully. Meanwhile, some of my favourite pics...

I agree it is poster perfect that picture.
Pretty jolly close. Beautiful car, in full flight, with the curves of the circuit laid out behind - they don't get much better than that.

My only gripe would be that the car is slightly too far left in the frame. And that's a tiny, tiny nit to pick. And a very easy edit to make ...

(Of course, if it was an S2 the picture really would be perfect. But it would probably also be blurred on account of the extra speed S2s achieve, so maybe it is a good thing it is only a turbo, eh?) [;)]

Thanks for the kind comments guys. The wiper is a temporary fix that I actually quite like! My drivers side linkage keeps popping out and I haven't got round to sorting it. So, with the chance of rain on monday, I removed the driver's side wiper and repositioned the passenger side so as to cover most of the driver's side sweep. Looks kinda touring-car esque?!

Cadwell is ace, car looks sweet in the pics.

edh- thought you were doing Snett last wk with the Northloop lot? cracking day was had by all, weather was ace & my porker of win was going top banana too.

Was working that day - never been to Snett as it's quite a trek from here. Unfortunately I managed to sign up for the very wet & ultimately washed out Donington day on Oct 1. I would like to see your 924, I reckon you got a bargain there. I see lali's 968 engined CGT rep is up for sale, but it's not quite in my budget [:D] I might try & get along to a Northloop meet next year.

So have you raised the issue with the garage - would love to hear what excuse they come up with.

Andrew W.

I've been extremely pleased with the garage's response so far. They are collecting the car tomorrow and have agreed to put everything 'right'. I'll let you know what that means exactly!

That's as it should be but it's pleasing that they are taking the right attitude.

Let us know the outcome,

Andrew W.

Oh purleeease....

Only reason that the Turbo could be captured by the camera was down to a superfast shutter speed and lightning reflexes on the part of the photographer!

He could have used a basic pinhole camera on a 30 second exposure for an S2...

...now a diesel Seat might be a different matter [;)][:D][:D][:D]

Oh I do miss this!

Ben, great pics and great looking car!

Snett is v of course difernt to Cadwell, worth a bash tho if youve never been, & pah a trek from Derby! you should try it from Hampshire [:)] then again I've treked to Spa, Zandvoort, 'ring may times, Dijon, Charade, Mas du Clos & even as far as Monza for a trackday before [:D] was more the social 2 nights & we were sooo lucky with the weather.

Yeh porker is going well, its no rocket naturally my ring golf & yr civic would give it a spanking, but im loving it & the weight loss is contiuing- i'll update my build thing when have time.

Loving lalis car too, but yes too rich for me also.
