AndrewJB's 981 Cayman S tinkering thread

I think you'll find all 981s have the rain sensor in place, but it isn't activated unless specified on the vehicle order. If you take a look at PET, you will see that there is only one mirror mounting, whether you have manual or auto dimming mirrors. I have activated a few, on both "basic" 2.7s, up to well-specified Ss like Andrew's.

Nice. So do cars without dipping mirrors have the button for dipping mirrors. They looked different to me....

I wish it was easy to swap the interior mirror to auto dimming as that's one feature mine doesn't have.
It can be too dark sometimes. Especially the side ones
Dean, I agree they can darken too much. I still find it a very useful feature.

Absolutely. I'd always spec it. It's brilliant most of the time

I wouldn’t wish for Andrew to think I was hijacking his tinkering thread but I do have a very emotive question to Cayman owners: Which exhaust have you found to be beneficial to the performance of the car? As a younger man I couldn’t wait to get my full bore exhaust fitted to my latest vehicle, it was a noise thing in those days. Years have passed me by and my attitude has changed towards noise. I run a stock exhaust on my Cayman however I would like something a little throatier but I don’t wish to wear ear defenders or have the hi-fi cranked up to max to hear a tune. I have run vehicles in the past that were like that and after a while they become draining.

As I say it is a subject that could run and run. Hopefully not.

For me, Cargraphics 200 cell manifolds.

I've had two Caymans (Caymen?), one with auto dimming mirrors and one without… And I really miss them. I'd even pay a reasonable amount of money to get them retrofitted but I don't believe that's a thing they do. Alas.

(I miss the auto wipers less, but they were nice all the same)

Most of Porsche's add on's are very useful. I love the auto wipers, the self dimming mirrors and the auto lights. I can't say I got a big buzz in turning on and off the intermittent wiper facility, now I just have to let it do it's own thing. I love the bits which just take care of themselves.

I have Zenons with PDLS - does anyone know if the '+' (auto main beam) can be programmed in or added at reasonable cost?

I don’t think that’s practical - you’d need the camera..and I believe that entails a different windscreen too.

I wouldn't worry. It's not very good anyway. It's got better with LED lights on Audi's

I have a camera in my screen already as I have speed limit display - is it the same camera?

Beauty of having a 6 digit plate is you can have a "shorter" plate, still with legal font of course, and yes I have removed the reg number so you can't really see the letters haha, they are gloss gel.
