Annoyed about insurance

ORIGINAL: Sifly

However, I didn't require any track day cover. Do they offer it and if so, what are the terms / cost?

Simon

Cover for PCGB trackdays is included, you just need to call them a week or so before to get a cover note. Other trackdays are covered at discretion (depends on the track and organiser) for a fee of about 50 quid.

Cheers Steve, that all sounds fair enough!

Think I will keep to the Mk2 for track use this year at least!
I just stripped everything else out of the car and trial fitted the cage. Think i will get some Plastic windows to loose a few more kg's before I upgrade the rad and intercooler before a final re-map. I'm aiming for about 230-240 bhp. Will fit a set of semi slicks too (and pray for dry days)!! [8D]

I think I'm going to get you barred from taking than one on PCGB days! [:D]

but seriously...I've yet to book my first outing at Oulton this year, mostly because some work needs doing on the car first. But I'm hoping to book something for early April and will let you know what the plans are [;)]

Sounds good Steve, please do. Hopefully see you on the Wales run (as you scream past me)!! [:-]

No one is mentioned how much it is costing these days. Now that most of us are old fuddy duddies (1960's era!) excuse the young whipper snappers so what are these buggers charging these days.

Mine was done last year on 3000 miles (cant see me doing that this year!) and it cost me £330.

Views....

That's exactly what it has just cost me for 5,000 mile limit.

Yours truly

another 1960's fuddy duddy [:D]

I found the best deal to be with Hagerty. £190 per annum. Limited to 4,000 miles per annum. The car has to be in the garage by 10pm if further than 5 miles from home. To have the policy you need to have a 2nd car which is yours and not a company car. However they do not take into consieration No Claims Bonus, so you are free to use it for the 2nd car.

Direct line unlimited miles but they put it as the wifes second car for some reason as it worked out better they were way the best for me with 5 years no claimes and age 38

I'm with ClassicLine

Age - 37
Car - 91 964 3.3 turbo
Location - Cheshire

Limited Mileage - 3000pa
Fully Comp
Agreed Valuation
Garaged (when at home)
Cat 1 security
European cover
Windscreen Excess - £60
Claim Excess - £100

£248 p.a.

Most other companies wanted £500+

My insurance is due next month, paid £325 last year for 5,000/y on driveway and £100 excess. No claims not required.
Wondering if it will go down this year as I hit the big 40?

As someone who is likely to be insuring a 964 in a few weeks - can someomne tell me how much i should expect to pay..
doing the trawl rthrough price comparisons websites has given me figures of less than £300, but my concern is that if the worst happens, they'll just asay that the car is only worth £5k (Glasses trade) and i'm hugely out of pocket...
25 yrs driving full no claims - 3 car household (inc porsche) (1 co car insured for me and wife) wifes car insured using no claims for both of us (less than 2k miles a year) 2 drivers...

Thanks

D

The simple answer is yes you can get insured for an amount similar to that.

Many of us use specialist brokers like Classicline, Aon, Adrian Flux, A Manning, Hagerty, etc. They offer good prices as long as it's not for commuting and you do a limited mileage. Most are insuring it as a classic car and don't need you to use your NCB to insure it (you keep that on your daily driver). Some will do a guaranteed value if you provide them with a valuation (you can use your bill of sale) and photos.

But check that the mileage restrictions they impose suit your needs.....the reason for this thread was that my last insurer decided that they would no longer allow 5,000 miles pa (they dropped it to 3,000).

cool... sent haggerty an email and got quite a quick reply. As with the original poster, if 1989 car i can have 5000 miles pa - but if 1990 or later, only 3000 miles..

Received my renewal through the other day, £378.90!
I think this is too high
Age 40
Mileage 5,000
Kept on Driveway

Will try the insurers you mentioned Steve.

There should be a page on the forum where we could place our insurance renewal dates on and let the specialist insurers chase us for our business?

Another 1960's model here [8D]
964 C2 3.8 etc. etc.
Unlimited mileage (inc commuting)
Agreed value £41k (as they stopped doing reinstatement)
5 free trackdays
A shade under £400 (more or less the same as last year) - suits me! So stayed with AON (FJ)

Last year Hegerty were also about £230 for market value or £440 for reinstatement - both with 3000p/a and 10% per track.
