Hi all just moved over from scoobynet (don't know what kind of respnse that will get!) as planning a 99ish 996 in the spring. Just thought i'd say hello as i'm probably the most northern member on the mainland (all be it associate member[;)] ) being from Thurso.
Seen a black 996 in Howard johnsons in the autotrader for the last few months that has come down in price and wondered if anybody knows anything about it as its a fair treck for me if its slightly ruff.

Welcome - you won't get any bashing here, people take all sorts of routes to end up with a porsche. Good luck with buying the 996.

Do your homework and learn about the 996 and its potential problems. You need to be armed with information so that you can ask the right questions. Make sure you get it checked out by an independent party. Go to Rennlist and read about the 996, ask questions, get it checked out and make your ultimate decision.

Welcome

Make sure you have the car checked out by a OPC or similair independent dont be in a hurry and don't buy the first one you see there are hundreds out there.I suppose living in Thurso you are a bit away from the main stream when it comes to showrooms . Is Aberdeen your nearest main town ,read up all about the model you are interested in .

thanks for all the advice. Should have covered most of it already (ultimate buying guide, porsche mag guide etc) just a matter of pulling my finger out and taking the jump now. Aberdeen is my nearest opc (at 220miles[:(] ) but i've already spoke to them about there inspection/warranty costs etc.

You should get in touch with Mark Baker - he's a sheep shagge...sorry, Aberdonian (although he'll be bleating "I'm from Ayrshire" any minute) - he's also the Regional Organiser for Scotland North and may be able to find someone who could go and have a look and give you an independent opinion on the car before travelling down to find its very tatty inside etc..

He posts on here as 911sse, or email him on mark@whiteapple.co.uk

But I am from Ayrshire!!!!!

Hello to you anyway Scot ( I assume) and you are more than welcome to catch up with us on any events next year, There are quite a few PCGB members up in the Inverness area, so you are not alone!

good to hear! i received the magazine with my membership but never noticed any dates etc for the northern scotland meetings etc where can i pick these up from? cheers scott. (only scot because i've got S60T JC to go on my 996 hopefully)

The only meeting there currently is in the North region is based in the Aberdeen
area, details in the back of the Porsche Post.

Sounds like a good excuse for a group outing to Thurso ... better get the kettle on Scot!

Only joking [:D] ... welcome on board.

keeping everybody in tea would be relatively cheap compared to the cost to you guys for sul up here!!! 94.9p a bloody litre now![]

Granted, but at least you live in one of the few parts of the UK where you can still actually USE a Porsche properly ... just don't tell anyone. [;)]
