Another one bites the dust..........

Well, it's been a couple of months and the search for a replacement continues....

Am beginning to think that at up to £9k I'm going to have to consider other less interesting alternatives. In the meantime, while the weather is fine, I'll put up with using the push bike for local shopping/post etc

I completely understand if they're not your cup of tea but I'd have an E46 M3 over an S2 every day of the week. Over 100 bhp more from a much nicer engine and they're on the up price wise. Just buy one with a reinforced boot floor. If I was only going to run one car it would be one of these.

So sorry to read about your S2. 5k less your excess is a bitter pill, and a lesson for us all. I have mine insured for 8k, and I like to think it's a 'good one' (at least that's what Andy at Promax said), but reading your update, I'm starting to think I should put it up a bit. I often look at what other cars are going for online, but I've never viewed one. It's therefore interesting to hear that even the 9k cars have their problems. Is a good S2 really worth 10k these days?! Good luck with your search, I'd be interested to hear how other prospective cars stack up in the metal.

Mine was a give away at 7.5k. Andrew beat Wolfie to it with a firm offer, now down in London waiting to hear from Andrew on his thoughts.
If I had finished all the little jobs and had the drivers seat bolster repaired it would have been a 9k car all day long.
Good luck with your search, get yourself to Silverstone Classic as 1500 Porsche are expected there may be one or two for sale.

I briefly looked at it....very nice looking interior, sounds like the service history could be a bit patchy in terms of bills for any work done(or not). I doubt it's had much spent on it, or use in the last 5 years. I wonder if they've addressed the advisories on last years MOT? What worried me most was "the all-important cam belt was changed at 117k".......which would have been back in....err...2007:ROFLMAO:....and that's from a Porsche 'Specialist'. I'm unlikely to consider buying a 944 from a dealer as I resent paying their profit on top of what a car is worth, often for little more than a serious valet. Might be different if I was after my first 944 and didn't know what to look for.

What they are advertised for and what they sell for are very different. I'd be aiming to view cars at the top end and offering between £7-£9K. A number of cars have been for sale for a long time, this maybe they have serious issues or are just overpriced. Take your time the right car will come along, good luck.

Hi Ron,

It's been a while, hope you're well. What a shame, if I hadn't recently made alternative arrangements, I would have definitely been interested. A very nice car I remember and a great drive too.

Blimey Wolfie,,
Gutted but happy that you walked away,,,

Thanks Jason, thankfully there were no casualties....glad I was on my own......reckon there'd have been more chance of injuries if I'd had a passenger.

Hi Richard- yes apologies for lack of contact-all well now-i just thought it might be an option and would rather it went to
someone who loves 944,s. I am sure i will sell her quite easily-just hope i dont miss her too much.
Did you manage to find a Porsche?
All best wishes Ron

Apologies on my part too. Overdue for a meet, maybe sometime next week? I'll drop you a P.M later.

Cheers,

Richard

Well isn't it funny how things turn out......I end up buying Ron's car. I had to make a difficult decision after having only bought the turquoise S.2 from Bob 'Bellaboots' a few of weeks before. The reason was that Ron's car feels more like my old car with KW's and other suspension bits and the genuine 17" Cup 1's helped to swing it....also has 55k less miles with good history.

The other good news and much to my relief, a couple of days ago, I got an email from my insurance company saying the accident had been recorded as a 'non fault incident'. Although a costly affair, I look forward to putting some miles on my new car and have to remind myself how lucky I am to have got out of that nasty crash unscathed.

Thanks Oli, I can only assume that the witness did come forward otherwise I'd have been lucky to even get a knock for knock decision.

BTW.......Baltic blue is the new fastest colour [:D]

Thanks Ed, I'd known Ron's car for a good few years and one of few I'd regard as worthy replacement for the red one. Ron's probably the closest in terms of important work done with additional things like brake and fuel lines. The ride on the KW's is more compliant/comfortable than the setup I had, I think due to the fact that mine was lowered as well. I rather like the MOMO Corse steering wheel too [8D]

hey Richard,,,,
Glad it all worked out ok and congrats on your new arrival,,,,,
very best of luck with her,,,,,
dove blue is such a lovely colour,,,,,jaspnp
