Another Winter Resto

Dropped off in November and getting there at last. A typical case of 'let's see what we can find' and six months later I'm still there! Been told all bodywork repairs and new custom sections made, welded in and done, all rubbed down. Etch primer next week...

All stripped down and back to bare metal. Was going to soda blast everything to original base coat but discovered there were too many later paint layers (with no primer on some panels) so far quicker and cheaper to sand back.

Rear window and corner corrosion which explains water ingress to the floor (front and rear) that I had. New templates and custom sections done.

That's what I thought too. Underseal was hiding some dodgy corrosion here and there and some of the usual hot-spots, while tolerable for many, just showed you can't ignore them in the end.

Ended up opting for an OPC new front wing as all these breakers eBay body parts were getting to be a bit of rip off. None of them willing to take any offers and phoned round a few who all wanted at least £500 plus courier for something that could be equally naff under the paint. Brand new wing was only another couple of hundred delivered. A few mods along the way too, new front screen, re-routing headlight washers, re-wiring that stupid early Clifford alarm to a cut-off switch instead plus a few other things.

Just want the thing finished off in time for Le Mans...

Hope so Marcus, see you there & looking forward to talking about your resto.

My mate will be bringing his 3.2 which had the full monty done a few years ago, I'm sure there will ample opportunity to compare notes.

I'm booked in again on the Curves this year Colin and looking forward to it. I can see this being a mad rush at the end of this month to MOT, re-tax and find someone cheap enough to put on that paint protect shield/film.

That drive and lunch break at Gace on the way down is what keeps my chin up!

Interested in that 3.2 to look at. Had been toying with the idea of getting another and a 3.2 is there on the list.

You're gonna turn into a Zymol guzzling garage Queen... 964 too delicate to drive in case it rains on your pretty new paintwork :)

Guys no more talk of polishing.....please use the 964RS forum which is the new home for all polishing gossip! [:D][:D][:D]

p.s. Fingers crossed for you Marcus that it gets finished on time. [:)]

looks good mate at least you have had plenty of time to save for the job in the interim. Did you end up going with Daytona? My car is still looking great and the paintshield protection has been fantastic to keep the front half unmarked a good 18mths down the track. Came up a treat once detailed before i took it to Spa last month. I remember i got lucky on a second hand wing at about £270......prices seem extortionate now.

LoL Steve..

Yup Andrew, Daytona have had the car since November. You were extremely lucky to find a presentable enough wing for that money. Thought paintshield were too pricey for me (quoted £1k+ just for front) and managed to find another for half that (apparently does a lot of the exotics). Off to RPM straight after for MOT and maybe a 12k service (just want plugs and tappets done really).

Noticed how nice your 964 looked on that Spa movie you guys did - got me thinking for a moment about black wheels..

Hey - I resemble that comment!!

I've just repaired all the rear bumper heatshields.

It's amazing what you can do with a sheet of 0.9 mm aluminium which is thin enough to cut with a strong pair of scissors, a pop riveter and rolls of aluminium adhesive tape.
