Antidote to the 718's Disappointing Sound?

Personally, I like turbo engines, 6 or 4 cylinder they pull well and even when my 944 turbo only had 220bhp it would still put a grin on my face every day and so I have no doubt that 718 owners will be pleased with their cars, I prefer the look of the 987 inside and out but that's my preference, I love driving my Cayman S with it's PDK, PASM etc. As hybrid technology comes into the cars it will be interesting and I think not only the motive power will change with VTG turbos and boost off the hybrid power units for acceleration but also transmissions will have variable electric drive and will end the days of the manual transmission. The Cayman of today is different to that of ten years ago but both are excellent, the Cayman of 2026 if it is still the Cayman and I think it will be will be, will be very different, maybe even four wheel drive. Possibilities are endless.

It's not 4 vs 6 for me - it's all about throttle response and the feel under your right foot. No turbo comes close to NA.

A car any car is much more than just what's under ones right foot. [;)]

I said sports car, not hairdressers car :p Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ is another.

All too slow though, built to a price and not thrilling like a Porsche.

True David.

But don't kid yourself that Caymans and Boxsters aren't also built to a price. Certainly they benefit from significant parts commonality with the money-spinning 911 range but, like any manufacturer, Porsche implements cost savings whenever and wherever possible.

Mind you, it doesn't stop Porsche from being the most profitable entity within the VAG. Back in 2014 they were making about £14k operating profit per vehicle...!

I'm aware of both those points [;)] Throttle response is one of the most important things to me in a car, hence me lamenting the move to turbo'd power.

How you can compare an MX-5 to a Cayman though Cliff is beyond me!
