Looks quite tidy, although slightly high price? Just waiting to hear from the owner but couldn't find anything on here about it, anyone know this car?

Cheers
Andy

Does your assessment of the price take the spares package into consideration?

I admit that could cover a range of values (how full a system is the exhaust system, what sort of nick are the wheels in, what make are they, ditto the make, calendar age and condition of the tyres) but if all that lot is spanking lovely it could have a market value equal to the car itself.

Good point, I had yes (should have mentioned in my OP) that's why I put a question mark on price.

To be more clear!![:D] I'm not sure the value of the wheels etc - I'm not interested on those, the exhaust yes so curious if losing the wheels out the deal will likely bring the price down by much.

To have a view on that you need to know specifics of the tyres and have photos and full details of all the wheels.
They would ebay off well enough I am sure.

I saw it advertised when I was looking for mine!

Personally, I thought it was far too much money for a car that someone else has ragged the proverbial out of, around a track - why else would you needs 2 spare sets of wheels on slicks? Would you really want to buy a car thats been in the hands of someone else on track - I know I wouldn't. The amount of people who stuff it in the gravel is a lot higher than you may think!

Mileage really isn't everything, although once they get above 200,000 they are probably going to be knacked unless a lot of money has been thrown at the car. More importantly is overall condition, plenty of idiots buy these cars and stuff them into the local scenary, later repairing them badly. ÂŁ40K cars never stop throwing up ÂŁ40K type bills. In the grand scheme of things 944s are worth nothing these days and so fall into the hands of people who either can not be bothered or can not afford to maintain them properly. Half the battle is finding one that has been looked after correctly and with a solid body - all other concerns should be secondary.

Hope you find a good one! I covered well over 1000 miles trying to find my pair, with lots of dogs viewed along the way. There are good ones out there, don't be blinkered by only looking at ones with high price tags - they don't always reflect the condition of the car!

Andy - are u just looking at a early dash car. Just for comparisons sake you might want to look at my old 944 S2 just to compare overall quality for price. I see its back up for same in Nth London at a dealer for ÂŁ4995. If u can get it down closer to ÂŁ4k....that is similar to some of the prices of the other examples i have seen you looking at with all sorts of problems.

the car is original....its at 131k miles (i did most of the last 5k in it). BUT...its has a documented ÂŁ10k spent at Gantspeed and another specialist for full engine rebuild, and suspension replacement etc from 120k miles onwards. The car is rust free (except for a small blister on left front edge which isnt visible and wasnt noted as an urgent fix). Car drives really well and I remember taking it to the RAS 944 meet (see pics below) and it was very clean and tidy when viewed up on the lifts. Car has original GR paint as well in amazing condition. In my time with it I had it to GT One for a full check over and lavished it with attention and canuba wax! ;)

I had Peter Morgan inspect it and his report (I could send it to you if you want) is in the history file, with the write up he did for the "tried and tested" section of Porsche 911 world (he secretly likes these front runners a lot).

I am not saying its perfect (no 20 yr old 944 is) but it could be a good marker to compare overall quality against other front runners...

Some pics from my first ever 944 meet with the PCGB club.....(the banter was hideous [:)][:D]) but the concensus was that S2's are the fastest .....when in Guards Red!!! ;)

First off, defo no Auto Pixie, have one for my company car so want something to 'drive' :)) I had a long chat with the chap Pixie this morning, he seems genuine enthusiast. Bought the 944 in '08 for historic racing but turned out it's slightly too new for the class he wanted to enter! Hence he's now prepped an older 924 and why he wants the 944 out the garage. He says he's only done sprints, not track days so only 6-7 miles a weekend. Is that bad for a car which is going to be driven quick in its' life anyway? Overall it sounds ok, does need some attention here and there but I do agree, the price is high even with the parts.

I'm in no hurry to buy one as much as I'd like one now, just want to by the right one.

Andrew - thanks for the link, I'd seen that and thought it was lovely. I had started out on a search for an S2 but I'm definitely going square dash now. I think it's because that's what I grew up admiring when I was a kid!

edh - cheers mate, have seen that one too. It is on the radar but it's a long travel for me so it's sat in the wings for now!

Thanks all again for all your help and advice, it's all very welcome!

..that said, just realised it's only 2 junctions up the A1 from one I'm viewing Saturday morning - I'll be passing :) Maybe I should take a look, although worried it could prove dangerous!![;)]

admittedly my first Porsche experience was of my Dads square dash 944...still love those yellow intruments and the upside down rev counter....[;)]

I love the pasha interior. My 924 had pasha in it.If icoulod get hold of some I might even consider doing the S2's interior with it.That car looks good for the money though.

It's up to you :). Personally I think there are better out there, than this example. Sprinting is competitive racing against the clock and will put the car through it's paces. I wouldn't by an ex-race car due to not knowing the previous owner. You don't know how they drive or how they maintain their car, really!

Theres a difference between "driving quickly" and actively competitively racing a car. I've track dayed and sprinted a car but didn't advertise the fact to the next owner, it was also a road car and totally standard. It's still on the road and even up for sale at the moment!

Interesting discussion.

Personally, I'd have no hesitation in buying an ex-tracked car, but would approach it as I would any other car; what condition is it in, how has it been looked after, do I like the owner?

Porsche built their cars to be driven hard. Why therefore should driving them hard make them less appealing to buy, if they are looked after suitably?

Oli.

My car was tracked but it was known on here and by Promax. It was well maintained and looked after by its previous owners so I had no real qualms about buying her.

Its paid off as there's been no major trouble, the head is off at the moment and the bores etc are in fine fettle though I am getting new valve seats and stems.

I changed the suspension but that was through choice rather than necessity and the various things that have worn out at various times are no more than my previous 944 and in fact somewhat less. Touch wood she has turned out to be a cracking example of the breed (even if she isn't an S2 !)

Fair comments, thanks Pixie and all. Frustratingly not sure how soon I can get to see it but seeing two more local tomorrow. A gold square dash and Andrew's old GR S2, it's only a few miles up the road from the gold one so seemed daft not to take a look! ;)
