Let me guess: bought for £6,000 and 'offered' for £16,000 after a good clean and being photographed on someone elses gravel?

It's a boring old argument.....

Traders buy cars and add a mark-up. When has the world ever been different? You can choose to buy a car from a private seller with no security, or from a dealer where you have to pay for overheads, staff etc. You have legal recourse if something goes wrong, and the whole economy runs on people making a profit and paying taxes!

If you don't like it don't buy from a car dealer, supermarket or any other trade outlet. Otherwise, let's let people choose, and allow the market to force traders to limit their prices. It's not the forum's job to set people's income levels! [:)]

Indeed, but it is sort of like rubbing salt into the wound coming back onto the forum you bought it from with a £6K markup on face value. Up to the OP and down to one-to-one negotiations. However, at the price advertised I would not purchase out of principal. Good luck to all concerned etc. etc.

Or to fight their corner [;)].

Does anyone know of a top level 944s2 for sale or maybe thinking about selling. not looking for modified track day cars.
thanks

Good news. The more people try to sell 944's for the more their value will go up. If every 944 was up for sale for £350 then they would be worth ....£350.

And I'm with Paul. People sell their cars for a price and, one assumes, they are reasonably happy with that sale at the time. Circumstances may be that they need to sell, need the money etc and I accept that is unfortunate as it tends to tunnel opportunities, but none the less.

It could be you are selling because there are a myriad of small annoying faults with the car that you no longer have the enthusiasm to sort. We have all seen Wheeler Dealers on the telly (which I accept could be/is most probably contrived) and I admit I have sold cars myself when they develop that final small annoying fault.

Car dealers are car dealers. On every car that makes a killing there are probably two or three that don't. Staff, premises, insurance, taxes don't pay for themselves. You aren't forced to pay the price they are asking.

And the more you pay the more likely you are to get recompense if something does go wrong. If you pay "top dollar" a court would side with you in your expectations for everything to be right. If you pay bargain basement prices they will suggest you should expect it isn't going to be the same standard as a car at twice/three times the price.

I'm more than happy for dealers to push the prices up myself.

Not their corner, the forum "tone" is all I care about here.

There seems to be two camps. One group of people who choose to sell to and buy from the trade, with the inherant massive profits all car dealers make, and are happy: in this dealer's case glowing praise from the buyers and sellers recently. On the other side, there's always some griping about over-pricing. From people who haven't bought a car from them and never will.

Personally, I have no issue with someone advertising cars at whatever price they choose. It's their business, and none of mine. It does worry me when it turns in to forum-bashing though, as I don't see how it helps anyone. [:)]

I don't care what dealers sell used stock for, I haven't bought a 2nd hand car or bike from a dealer for over 30 years, basically because I can buy privately for the same money they can. There's plenty of dealers that sell for salty prices but I don't see them getting bashed on forums, perhaps because they have have built up a reputation over many years, using one business name...

There's no doubt they seem to have been playing nicely recently (although someone on ph with a iffy boxster might disagree) but the abuse and threats they dished out to people (also on ph) not so long ago will remain long in the memory.
