Authenticity Certificate

Just received my certificate for my '86 Turbo look Targa.

Disappointingly it just states vehicle as '1986/911 Targa 1976-1989'. Also in the list of options the codes are not defined there is merely a description.

So the magic numbers 'M491' does not appear, all it says is Sports equipment which is rather a broad specification.

The data sheet that I got from my local OPC before I bought the car quoted the M491 code and the description was 'Turbo look'

Should I query this with Porsche?

Can any 1986 Turbo look owners with authenticity certificates let me know what their's say please?

I have replied to this on the impact bumper forum.

No mention of M491 on mine

Its in the service book and under the bonnet so I am ok with that

Hi,

Im New to the Club and would like to get a Authenticity Certificate for my 85 Carrera sport coupe. Any pointers would be welcome.

Best Ed

Hi Ed, you should have had a submission form for the CoA in your membership joining pack. Just need to fill it in a send it off. I would check the options on the label under the front bonnet and check with description on the various option listings on the Internet.

I also went into my local OPC and they were able to print off the manufacturing history database from Porsche. This listed all options codes and descriptions

Many Thanks Richard,

I am just being over keen as I have not yet received my joining pack as i only joined at the beginning of the week.

Best

Ed

You should get the pack in the next 2 weeks then. I got a letter first with my membership number and then a couple of weeks later the full membership pack.

Hi Ed,

You will probably find that the CoA will take at least a month to get it back after submitting it - mine took 6+ weeks a year ago.

Hi Ed,

How come you are down as a 'PCGB Member' and I am just a lowly 'Guest of the Club'???

Hi
I have a 1986 one and my labels basically just say C16 but Certificate says M491 plus the other bits .Apparently this sort of thing is quite normal

So dont panic about it .You can also check on this german based website and register you car on there all for a small fee £20 .www.turbo-look.de
The guy will come back to and tell if its genuine . the old saying That if it looks right it most likley is right .
Enjoy it .Any pics !

I'm also down as 'Guest of the Club' even though I amended my profile with my membership number.

Hi Guys,

I've just posted an e-mail (on this site - top item on the menu) to ask for my status to be updated & then found that it already had been hours before!

Just spoken to Porsche GB about the description on my CoA relating to M491.

She confirmed that their system describes 491 as 'Sports equipment', I understood that the sports equipment pack was for Turbo front and rear spoilers plus uprated Bilstein shock absorbers.

She has agreed to raise a query with Porsche headquarters.

I'll let you know the outcome

Chased Porsche GB up today regarding my query about the description of M491. Unfortunately my contact has been off out of the office for the last 2 to 3 weeks. The girl I spoke to is going to look into it and get back to me.

I've also raised this subject on the IB forum and have found that there is a lot of inconsistencies in the CoA process and the related descriptions.

The most recent response said... "my CoA states.under model year /type as 1989 /911 1963-1989 Super Sport"

Surely the Super Sport was only available for MY87 to 89!!!

You're not going to believe this, I've had no further contact with Porsche GB since I chased them up about my CoA query last week, but a letter from Porsche GB dropped thro' my letterbox today.

Inside was a new CoA which now includes on the optional equipment list; 'Sports Equipment including Turbo Look kit' I've never seen this description on any of the option listings available from the Internet

No explanation from Porsche GB as to the reason for the change either.

I'm a bit concerned about this whole CoA process. Is this something the Club ought to be taking up with Porsche GB.

Hi,

I found the above comments very interesting because I too had issues when I received my Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche in respect of my 1986 911 Coupe SE (with Sport Equipment). When I queeried it with Porsche this is the response I received.

"Good morning Mr Whyte

Thank you for your email. I can confirm this vehicle was ordered as a Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe (With Sport Equipment). The vehicle was converted at the factory by the Exclusive-department to a 911 Carrera Coupe
(With Sport Equipment). As Exclusive options are not recorded in the
usual way, owing to their exclusivity, no option M491 will not appear on the vehicle's VIN sticker.

Porsche 911 with the Sport Equipment (Option M491) were manufactured in a slightly different way to other production vehicles. When these vehicles were produced at the factory, they were essentially made as a standard 911 model and at one point of the production line the cars were taken to the Exclusive Department for modifications to be made to replace the standard equipment with Sport Equipment, Turbo front and rear spoilers with running
gear. Any record of these modifications are only viewable to the
Factory, or the selling dealer, as they are unique to the individual vehicle and the customer that ordered it.

There is the same degree of exclusivity around the option "Colour to Sample". This is essentially a custom colour that the original purchasing customer will have ordered as a special option. For example a paint colour or material colour that is not available in that years model ordering guide is matched. As this is completed by the Exclusive Department, the option is given a generic colour code in order to prevent it being used again, thus securing it's exclusivity.

I will amend the Model Name on your Certificate, and resend your Certificate."

I thought you readers of this thread may be interested.
