Average Age ??

Helms

New member

Just wondered what the average age of the 996 owners are, I myself am not YET an owner (hoping to change that in the next year or so aslong as things go to plan!!)
Currently aged 24 years. :)

Hey Helms!

I had my first Porsche at your age...it was a 993 in Guards Red...now have the 996...im a young 33 [;)]

Congratulations [:)] XXX

you are only as old as you feel ! Or the woman you feel... hehe
Is it true by the way that the Carrera 2 is RWD and DOESNT have TCS? Seems slightly insane! hehe
As I understand it, Carrera 4 = 4WD and TCS and Carrera 2 = RWD and no TCS.
Both otherwise identical. (?)

Thank you for your help richard, I've read alot of your posts which have helped alot already.
Im now just unsure now what mark to get, Im a tad concerned at the prospect of buying a 1998 or 99 reg due it the age.
Not to mention the 2001 + models seem to have a far nicer dash, steering wheel and seats also...
I need to go and see some really. Doubt the local porsche dealer will have 99, 02 or 04 reg carreras.
I think the C4 is goin to be the way forward for me though, as with my right foot I'm likely to end up in a hedge with RWD hehe

The C2 and C4 drive very differently, so you need to try both. Most people specced TC on C2s, so you won't have trouble finding one with it fitted. A C2 isn't as scary as you might think, even putting 300bhp through the rear wheels. The traction is phenomenal. Do a trawl of the independents, as they are the ones who have decent stocks of early models. There are some great bargains out there at the moment, and hs never been such a buyer's market.

i was 5 when i got my first one,only pedal power tho[:D]

had to wait another 16 years before my real one!!

good luck with your first

I had a black matchbox porsche turbo given to me in 1978 by my mum which i still have sat next to a photo of my GT3, but had to wait untill I had saved up, bought my first & only Porsche when I was 39 2 years ago [:)] & worth the wait

I will really push the average age up 63 [:D] Got my first 911 Carrera 3.2 a1984 car when I was 48 ish to be honest could not afford one before that bringing up a family and all that stuff .Now on my 10th Porsche various models and years 924.944.s 928. 993. 996.986 987 etc so owning one at any age is good ...Enjoy life ! This is not a rehearsal !

I was 26 when I got mine.., and have had it for 3 years...so average down again... lol... I've got a Carrera 4 with GT3 kit.. Mine's a 99 plate and had no problems. I bought one purely because I've always wanted one since I was a kid. With the current climate you will certainly see some bargains popping up. However, I would suggest you save a couple of £K, just for a rainy day. Cars may be cheaper these days, but cost of ownership can be alittle expensive. My advise is do your research and don't just buy the first one you see. A car is just a car, but there are good ones and bad ones. I don't use mine everyday, but just an example: 4 new tyres have just cost the best part of £600 and I got a good deal. If you have a heavy right foot it will eat them.

All the best in your search..

Steve

33 years and 11 months for me! I missed my (self impossed) target by 12 years, which is no shame, as many wait a lifetime and never make it! (37 and 3/4 now!)

I could have got one sooner ( I had cars that cost as much, but I avoided buying one for some unknown reason?) People who 'love' Porsche, have their own idea of a 'dream car'.

Anyone can pick up an old 'dog' (as my 'younger' brother did) and say they have a 'Porsche' which is true, but this approach is not for everyone.

Age doesnt matter and it is only down to the individual and 'life'.

" 4 new tyres have just cost the best part of £600 and I got a good deal. "

thats an INCREDIBLE deal!!i just paid twice that for 4 michelin pilot sports!!and after only 7000miles!!.

It all started some 15 years ago then aged 42 with a 964. then a 944 as a daily user, shopping car, then a 993 then a 993 4s, then a 993 turbo, then a nearly new 996 4s, which started to lose money like mad,

So I thought I will buy a 930 and sold the rest. then the collection started.

930 cab, then a 930 se which I still have , then a 968 for shopping , then a 993 4s and a 944s2 and then back to a 996 turbo,

Now 57 with 4 cars it just goe's to show that you get worse has you get older.

New year promise find a nice 356 before its to late.

Got my 996 C4 when i was 32 had it 4 years. Its not a cheap car to run but well worth it.

£600 for 4 x tyres that is a great price.

well for me its 33 and a bit.... never been int the Porsche thing...then a friend lent me his 996 C4 coupe... like candy to a child...just had to have one... so here i am almost a full year with my C4 Cab and loving every moment... Would have to agree that the tyres have been the expensive item so far (went from Bridgestones...nasty hard things to Michelin Pilot Sports...mmmmm) although my PCM has just gone pop so I'm awaiting with baited breath the repair bill in the New Year.

I was 52 when I got my first 911 (996 Carrera 2) but I had a Boxster for a couple of years before that. I swapped the C2 for a C4S after about 3 years and have just defected from the 996 clan by changing to a well specced 997S. The 997 is great to drive, even better than the 996.

Terry

well i chopped my boxster 2006 model in last month for a C4 CAB 2003 model and im 34 ! it really has been my dream all my life to get into a 911 and im loving every min of it , best thing i have ever achieved in my life ! trouble is i dont want to drive anything less now for the rest of my life ! best wishes [:D]
