Back on the road!

Well, finally my NGT is back from a full top end rebuild, and I have the pleasure of 1000 miles at a max of 3,000 rpm. So with that in mind, I did manage a 380mile round trip to Lincolnshire and back. Really cant tell much at this stage. Although the clutch take up is a lot smoother, and it stalls less than it did. Not quite sure why that would be, but taking it apart and putting all back together again has helped now end. Once I've completed the other 2/3s of run, car will get another loss test to confirm state, then I'm away!!!

The engine looks great, all parts chormated, fan powder coated, and tins powder coated. new nuts bolts all around, and I got the guys to spend an hour cleaning the engine bay, whilst it was out, so its no clean behind all the wiring loams at the back. Looks lovely.

Hopefully taking it to look for some new seat belts this week. looking at going for a 3" schroth set, 6point with a twist release in red with a black schroth label, so like the original set. I can get last years 1/2 price, which will keep them valid to 2013 - which I though was a deal for 50% off - lets see!

Good news Hugh, but tell us more about the Schroth deal -I see they are offering money back on old belts against new.

Hi Melv, this is with http://www.msar-safety.com/ who are looking at shifting last years stock, so only a limited availability. As stated the belts are dated to 2013, which is good enough for me. I think I'm going for a Profi II 6 slip stop (for use with HANS) on Driver side, and then a profi II 6 as a passenger belt.(no need for HANS). If anyone calls - ask for Jen, and say Hugh sent you!

H_____ is yours the only mint green NGT in the country? I guess not because there was one on the PCGB display at the Silverstone Classic on Saturday.....and for sale at a cool price! [8D]

No, there is at least one other (possibly 2?) in the UK. I understand that the other well known one is in very nice condition, so would expect a healthy price tag! What was it on for?

I believe there a few more Mint green NGTs in Europe, but not many. Of course this is all hearsay, I've no real idea of numbers.

It was priced at a measly ÂŁ85K [:D]

If it's Stuart's, I know that he has invested a lot of money in getting it properly sorted.

I have only seen 2 x Mint Green N-GT's --- Stuart's and the one Des had.

ÂŁ85k ?

1. What is Tom asking ?

2. What is the colour worth ?

There is your bench mark ...

colour has to be worth a healthy chunk [:D] [:D]

What did the mint green lwt go for from Malton? It seemed to fly out of the door!

It was sold before I saw it at their open day ...

I think it's a fabulous colour --- for me even better than Maritime Blue.

Back in a mo' ... the very car ... at SCOM ...

I notice Thomas only has one NGT at the moment, although there are a still a couple on mobile.de, they are modded and have been around a while. So I guess its very hard to judge. Seem tio be struggling with posting pics - some later I hope.

Think the SCOM car sale was to do with it having almost no miles on it and its condition rather than its girly colour[:D]

Hugh why did yours need a full top end rebuild?

It low compression on 2 cylinders (broken rings) which I knew needed doing when I bought it. So I had planned to just do one side, slide the heads off, fix rings, slide back on again. As always, once we got it apart, we found wear on the camshaft, and wear on the rockers. That was enough to make me want to take the other side apart. And that showed the other camshaft had wear too. Then it just starts getting out hand. Whilst you are there, its crazy not to get little things done, so we did all piston rings (correctly diagnosed originally). The chains had been split in the past, no biggy, but thought I;d put continuous chains back both sides, as it is apart. The rockers had been rebushed (odd?), so they all went. As per advice here, it seemed silly not put titaniun retainers and springs in. One cylinder head wasnt matching, so we fixed that. as mentioned new pair of camshafts. I also had the bottom end inspected, and the barrels and pistons checked. Basically, I dont want it apart for the next 3-4 years, and it will get some proper use at some point.

That also made we decide to go standard with it - keep the reliability and learn how to drive, will be the approach!

Now this is done, car needs a bit of running, then a full suspension/geo going over. A few cosmetic bits along the way, and it should be sorted. Still needs a bit of cash spent on it. Just started checking some regs on what it needs and where it is eligible. Future Classics is an option, and AMOC has been suggested, but think thats a bit brutal!. Expect to do Pomerey Trophy early next year if anyone is interested. Looks like a nice safe event.

The SCOM did look pretty, and I think low miles and collectors condition will continue to differentiate cars. Still curious at what it sold for. If I hadnt bought mine, it would have been high the list. Although, I guess it wouldnt have been as good for trackwork (too original, low millage)
