Hugh, eek sounds like big bill.
Will be worth it though. I had mine all redone similar to yours and it runs like a dream and pulls so strong.
The SCOM car went for 80k I think if I remember rightly.
Think the SCoM Mint Green car went through around £55k and was an OK car not a Museum piece.
I didnt see it myself but the owner of the other UK Mint Green RSCS did and had a good look at it []

Simon it was you that told me 80k.....so i must be getting this car completely mixed up with another!
I know mate, I was told that before Stu went to the SCoM event the other month...saw the car and was told £55k.
He had a good look at the car and said it was ok but no garage queen.
Who knows what these cars actually sell for, I've heard the 993RS' at SCoM are £135k...also been told £120k and £129k....maybe they are linked to the FTSE

I think SCOM make their own prices up as they are all POA and they seem to be different prices depending who they talk to. Don't think anyone other than the owners know what they sell for....and not sure they know either![]
Chris is having fun with your old blue one though - hope you're keeping well mate.

I had a 23,000 mile RHD Metallic Coral Red car which was lovely.
I sold it because of the low miles car premium.
Use it and lose it ?? Just didn't make sense for me.
I believe these cars will divide into two camps, low mileage museum pieces and high mileage cars that have lived.
Me and my cars are living, and I believe are all the sweeter for it.
Hugh, you have fantastic car, yes you will spend some money on it, and hopefully you will use it and enjoy every moment with it. And I am sure it will repay all your effort.
Me and my N-GT (thank-you Simon !) have learnt to drive ... []
What do you plan to do ???

Well I do want to use it competitively, but gently. So keeping a look out for what it is eligible for. The pomeroy Trophy is likely to be the first outing. http://www.vscc.co.uk/vsccweb/news/news.jsp?id=526
I want to do a few trackdays to get used to the car, then may try a couple of races, would rather do an endurance format (usually less damage). These guys seem to do some interesting stuff, and I'm hoping the style is quite relaxed, we are racing with them in 4 weeks, which will give me a chance to see what sort of racing it is, and whether I'd ever put the NGT into the mix.

Basically, plenty of time, I think the car will become eligible for more interesting stuff over the next 5 years, so not going to rush it onto the ciruits in the meantime.

OllieW - Car work was done by RPM http://www.rpmtechnik.co.uk/. Complete 964philes, and they have a great guy for engine rebuilds. I'll drop you a note of the costs (roughly), but not sure its a great guide. Reason being only 30% of my costs were labour, the rest was parts or machine shop work. So the price of a top end, very much depends on what you find when you pull the engine apart. Without doing anything special, costs can vary between 3k-10k (seriously no-kidding) However, the lower end of the scale is a not a full rebuld, thats a take the heads of to fix a known issue and put all back again. 10K is full works and new parts.
A couple of other things, always get a before and after loss test (so you know what you've fixed and by how much). And why do you think you need yours rebuilding? Mine was due to excessive losses.
I am sure others can comment, and I'll drop you a note on details.

These do look very interesting Hugh.
It seems to be such a fine line between getting the car going well, using it as intended, developing one's personal skill set, and not wearing the car out !!
Chris, I'll keep you posted. I've pretty much decided that the car is to be used, and I'll have to pay/work to keep it in shape. Its done 90k km, so isnt low millage, therefore, not going to worry about putting miles on it too much.

Interesting Hugh when you came back to me with the compression tests when you were buying the car. It certainly did not notice on a V-Max day at Bruntingthorpe when it went trough the gate at 162 MPH and still pulling, just goes to show, it was always down on torque and power at low speed but picked up at higher end, put this down to cam profiles and mapping as an Old Race Car where revs are maintained High.
Anyway now you have a new engine clutch and gearbox! Love to come and support an event you enter, Minty Groupies!

Mine was completely rebuilt --- top and bottom end, pistons, valves, the works around 14,000km ago. It will soon have done 100k !
I remind myself that: 1. The rebuild wound the clock back. 2. 100k Km is only 60k miles .... 3. I have done 12,000 Km in 2 years .... [:-]
Wow Chris - that's a lot of work!!! I had the bottom end inspected but not split. It has been apart in the past and the crank has been lightened, I also had barrels and pistons measured. Based on that we decided to leave it. There is a chance that it will need doing in 3-4years time. Your car has done similiar millage to mine then!
Des, you are right, the loss test only showed 2 cylinders were down, and it didnt seem particularly slow. The peakiness of the engine my related to the lightened bottom end, dont know. The problem becomes, once you've got it apart, you look at something like the rockers, which you can see are partly worn, although not causing issue yet, they are going to continue to wear. Then RPM say, "well they are 60quid each", and you think well thats not much, and it would be silly not to replace them. But then you need 6 of them + tax! The list goes on......[]
