Bad SC Day - MOT et al

Thats a nice uncluttered boot in Ians picture. There are 2 washer pumps on the SC I take it that the second one is for headlight wash? There is one pump mounted as Bones says under the slam panel but I think this might do the headlight washers. Iam going to ditch the headlight washers and blank off the holes in the bumper. I will find out which pump feeds which jets. I was going to have a look in a scrap yard and try to find a small bottle with a built in pump for easyness.

I think I'll have a toddle round some more body shops tomorrow - such as that one near Wembley Stadium. Worth a trip there just to see the new stadium going up (and up and up). Having seen that rather clean bonnet space earlier makes me wonder how much work I should do on my car. Mechanicals wise it's in good nick according to the guys from JZ but it needs cosmetics work bits of rust and new spoiler rubber on the back (yes - it is rusting).

Unfortunately wings etc are not exactly cheap and I ain't no DIY'er.

I want a 993 but that's realistically three years off due to a new business venture. Perhaps a 993C4S will make a good 50th mid life crisis car :) In which case spending some money over the next 12months might be worth it. Won't make it back of course...

Ian, I don't have my car here so I can't check the location of the pumps. On Carrera 3.2s the headlight washer bottle is fixed to the bottle so that may be what you are thinking. I don't think this is the case with the SC. For a quick check get someone to operate the screen wash switch while you listen to the pump at he front by the battery. The pump with thin plastic tubes attached is the sreen wash pump and the one with thicker tubes attached is the headlight washer. For a neat small washer bottle installation with carpets look at. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=170046&highlight=washer+pump+location
If anyone has the time search out the pumps and post please.

Thanks again Bones,
I've just checked my Bentley manual and it appears that the windscreen washer pump is the one just in front of the battery, seperate from the reservoir. This will make it an easier job removing the current large reservoir and fitting a smaller one in the boot space, all we need to do is re-route some hoses. It mentions that the headlight washer system has a different pump but does not say where it is. If anyone finds a suitable bottle and clamp I would appreciate hearing where it came from, cost etc.

Thanks

Ian

Took the car over to 911 Body shop in Wembley. Is that a hard place to find or what ? Right opposite Jazz which is fine if you can even find Jazz. I went round the one way system around the new stadium about four times before I found it. Some signs would be nice. Driving slow on that road while you have 38 tonner an inch for your spoiler is fun !

Guy there - Chris(pin) seems to know his stuff. Certainly had no problem finding more rust than I knew about :) Like I hadn't spotted/looked for rust in the opposite wing to the battery area - damn and blast....

I await his quote......

Richard Chris Carty repaired and painted my front bumper recently (insurance job so wasn't bothered about the cost) he did a very professional job, which I couldn't fault and refitted everything correctly, good bloke too and his son is jsut the same.
For a lower estimate try Berny Tetser out in Stowmarket asuming Chris' estimate will be highish.

I looked under the boot of mine today, the pump under the slam panel draws water from the resorvoir under the wing and then feeds away to a T-piece and splits to the screen washers and the headlamp washers. So to do away with the headlamp washers is going to be simple. Hope to progress the welding this weekend getting withdrawl symptons from not driving it.

Thanks Baz,
A relatively simple job for once and a few more ounces removed from the car (I could eat fewer pies!!!). Any ideas yet about a bottle and mounting bracket? I may check PP and see what they have.

Regards

Just an idea how about a cycle drinks bottle these come with nice cages that hold them all you would have to do is drill a hole in the bottom and fit a small outlet pipe. A 1/4 or 3/16 bulkhead fitting with washers sandwiching the bottle would seal OK and then you could put a hose end onto it. If you are really serious about the weight you could even get a good cycle bottle holder in carbon fibre.
