Hmm. Can anyone please tell me why and which one is correct?
I also have recently removed my black badge (see first picture) and replaced it with a silver one which looks fabulous. I'm just wondering now that by placing it in exactly the same position as the last badge I've actually placed it in the wrong place!!!

Would the factory have put it on so high?
I'm confused... [&:]
I think the badges get put at Reading after the protective coating is removed. (?)

The badge was probably put on by a previous owner, with the car probably ordered with the deletion of model designation option.

Mine is higher on the lid, as per photo 1. Could it be that moving it to the lower position was part of the '02 facelift?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Perhaps a few more 996 drivers would add to the list so we can see a pattern forming...
Not that it's that important or anything, but something that niggles... [&:]

Is this a world first? The spotting of another, as yet unknown difference, between pre and post-facelift cars?
I feel privileged to have been a small part of this find.

pre face lift 996 have the script above the second curve in the engine lid,
post face lift 996s have the script below in the lover curve, its done to tell the difference from behind.
its worth noting the replacement script is available in two sizes, but I hear only the new lower facelift size script is available, the C is a couple mm different in height.
Lets have a look at your nice valve replacements too!

Warm feeling inside.......Priceless!
Well, he said that the badge has never moved and the right place, is below the curve as in the picture below. This is usually done at factory but can come debadged if requested and then the order is changed or a new owner takes over an order, in which case it would be placed at Reading when being prepared for delivery and he suspects that it may be in these cases that the badge could have been accidently placed over the curve...
It hasn't failed on any of the 'net or magazine images I've seen either, and I don't believe they were all 'mistakes'
Prove the theory wrong Kish![8D]
