Badge Position Mystery

ORIGINAL: Richard Hamilton

The PET shows two different badges and part numbers, one for early cars, and one for facelift. It also shows their position as 'upper' and 'lower'.

I'll pass on the note to Alex (the service engineer) when I see him as Ace Cafe next...

Richard has just proved another theory that's been doing the rounds.
If the man at Porsche speaks, it's probably a lie.[:D]

I know you joke but thought I put some credibility for Alex. Alex (Porsche service engineer) is just a young kid (must be mid-twenties) who is a Porsche enthusiast just like us (but just can't afford a Porsche as yet) but has access to lot of internal archives and data. His Porsche knowledge is pretty good and knowing everything Porsche especially the history and classic Porsche is his main passion. Mechanically he has only worked on modern Porsches at Porsche Centre West London.

He is very keen on getting involved with the club members and will be attending Ace Cafe meets on a regularly basis... I don't think he will join the forum as I approached him via Porsche West London and they are not too happy for him to start giving official Q&A sessions as everything he says or writes has to be approved. So to be fair the badge position is something he told me verbally and showed it to me on a 996 at Ace Cafe last week which had the badge below the curve...

Fair play to him Kish, we all very much welcome him at the Ace. It is very good of someone from OPC WL to give up their time and help us out. They also do a great job with the free inspections we ask for. To be honest, if he would have known about something as irrelevant as the badge position he would have been a bigger saddo than me![:D]

The you lad Alex is coreect in what he says, but there is more to it!

Porsche lists 2 badges, on larger than the other, only one is now available, and its the one for the facelift, ie the on that fits in the convex without protrusion, the older one from the pre face lift sits on the convev curve, ie the upper half.

If Alex read up on it no doubt he may have read where to apply the only available one, ie lower convex.

Personally I like it in the higher for the simple reason that prior to me owning a 911 id I was stuck behind one in traffic up tight, I could see the word Carrera in the higher possition better!

No such issue on the 997 ehh...

Sorry Denis, but the badge you see in the photo of my car, which fits on the upper half, was purchased only a few weeks ago, and was readily available off the shelf. It is exactly the same size as the one I removed.

Yes yes, this is all very good, but has anyone noticed how many turns it takes for the valve caps to close on a facelift car's tyres compared to non-facelift?
Anyone?
I'll get my coat.[8D]

I reckon it's because they make so many cars these days that they just slap it on as it passes through the line and it's pot luck where it ends up[:D]

Yes, I KNOW what a saddo I am......[;)] [;)]

Just found out a couple of exceptions to the rule - C4Ss and 04- cars with aerokits.
Therefore, the possibilities for the Carrera badge are:

C2 - up to 01 - Black - Upper
C2 - 02 on - Black - Lower
C2 w/aerokit - 04 on - Black - Upper
C4 - up to 01 - Silver - Upper
C4 - 02 on - Silver - Lower
C4 w/aerokit - 04 on - Silver - Upper
C4S - 02 on - Silver - Upper

PLEASE let that be an end to it, and for goodness sake don't start on the "4" and "S" badges. [:)] [:)]

Rodders you plonker! :)

On a lighter note Richard the lenght of the logo is the same, its just the height of the C in Carrera has changed. I understand by a couple of microns no doubt!

Reckon we can make this in to a 3 page tread.

Incidently what angle is the water from your windscreen washer jet firing back at? For some reason mine is .4589 of a degree from factory? Hmmm strange....

What! After 14 days of no one posted, you wake it it up to say stop posting []

The Porsche engineer has been on holiday and no doubt he will want to stand corrected, so I will post his reply when he gets around to it... It ain't over until the wide-body roars [;)]

Whoops! Didn't notice the 14 day gap. Apologies! [&:]

Been on holiday. Drove to Italy, but not in my beloved...

... in a Kia Sorento!!!
