I enclose a picture of the expensive Porsche OE Battery - LHD

Sounds like you need a replacement bung, it also sounds like it will be hard to find. In the short term to stop fumes coming out of the open hole you could cover it with a small patch of Duck Tape until you find a solution. Sounds a bodge but it will help.

I am told the gasses are to do with sulphuric acid ! and that they are flamable.

When charging a battery you are supposed to do it in a well ventilated area

Anyone got a spare bung then?

Might get one off an old battery I suppose

Hydrogen and Oxygen are fairly conducive to combustion! [;)]

Should have bought the Bosch Silver Series for ÂŁ80 and had a removable bung!

Hindsight is a wonderfull thing :0( I thought I was doing the right thing

It would seem that all Porsche Main Delarer cared for cars are driving around 'unbunged' then

Perhap I should spend some more money on another battery, and keep this one for jump-starts :0(

Anyone got a bung in their battery?

I've never even noticed whether mine has one or not.

Never buy anything from an OPC - including the car! [8D] (unless you must have new).

That's a bit rich John! [:D]

Both you and I bought new from an OPC, many parts have turned out to be cheaper from OPC's than from Independants or Specialists. Porsche have really "done the right thing " recently when people had tyre supply problems.

Shop around agreed, but sometimes the OPC surprises with some good prices. Not always I'll grant you, but more often than I expected.

Yes I bought new (I wouldn't do it again barring a lottery win) but at the time there wasn't much in the way of pre-owned cars or have you forgotten things like the 12-18 month waiting lists? [:(]

I've never been surprised by OPC prices on anything - perhaps horrified! [:D]

Back on the battery ...

Am I the only one on this Forum to have ever bought an OE Battery ? ...... it feels like it :0(

Failing getting hold of a bung ... I am sure I can find something to fill the hole

Its a pity the OE 90degree pipe doesn't fit too well on the other end

Anybody fitted an OE battery and DID NOT use the pipe that came with it ? Its on the PET

Hi All

Porsche seem to be avoiding my e-mails on this subject :-(

All I asked for was an indication as to whether the the vent plug should have been moved from the right to the left, rather than being discarded and whether I could buy another right angled vent tube

I am rather obssesive about my car ... (as you can tell) .... and I just want it RIGHT

Tim

Tim - try a Porsche breakers, such as douglas valley - they will have cars with genuine porsche batteries (they had a 2 year old 987 advertised recently), so should be able to supply you the bung and a second outlet vent pipe for a small outlay

Is this what you are looking for? If so I don't know why because it looks like it is already on the battery. But your picture shows it on the end of the battery where the positive terminal is. I think for a RHD it goes on the other end.

The angled pipe on my car doesn't have that flanged bit, its just a right angled pipe

Looks like your bit fits the battery better :0(

The 'bung' at the other end would small (about 6mm) and round ... I think it was white?

Tim

HELP!

Just replaced the battery in my wifes boxster with a 70mA battery(bigger than the one that was currently in the car - as that was what the shop-books said to put in) and now there is ZERO throttle response.

Any ideas?
