In answer your question about battery voltage.
If your battery is in good condition, the voltage should be between about 12.4 and 12.7 volts [ignition off]. A reading lower than 12.4 volts means that your battery needs to be charged, so it sounds as though your battery is OK. A functional charging system should produce between 13.5 and 14.5 or more volts while idling, which is worth checking.

Mine hang from ropes from the ceiling with the bottom at bonnet level so I can park up and connect with the bonnet ajar. I always push the bonnet latch closed before letting the bonnet down when connected so the light in the car does not remain on.

It charges the Battery with 3.8A on a normal charging curve up to 14.4V and then switches into trickle charge with 13.2V.
Also, it shows the Voltage and the current charge status of the Battery.
