Battery Conditioner

Take your point about just starting the engine and not running it ,but taking the car out for a run means it needs washed when you put it away as you can understand not many dry days about at this time of year ,will look at some of the conditioners being recommended

Cheers

PS have decided on the Ctek 3600 it incorporates a charger plus conditioner for £50

Hi

I have used an "AccuMate" for the last two winters November - February. I set it on a Plug-in Time switch so it cuts in for 1 day (24hours) per week. This keeps my battery at 13.2v ish with no problem. A good site to check is - http://www.thegreenreaper.co.uk
You may also require a wall bracket and a set of extension leeds However my charger is fixed to the wall next to the front of my car and the leeds supplied are fine. Cost is around £34.99

You could also go down the solar panel/charge controller route - but not the cheapest option. Have info if you're interested.

Halfords do a brilliant one for £25.00 - two sets of connectors, compact, effective. Don't waste money on silly branded items.

CTEK3600 about £55 with the ciggy lighter adaptor (check your ciggy lighter is live all the time before you buy the extra adaptor as not all cars are), or if you want the same thing but with a LIDL or ALDI sticker on it then it'll cost you £12.

I have the CTEK 3600 and the ALDI Tronic T4X version - they work exactly the same.

Since this is the same as the Porsche supplied item I assume the cig lighter or power socket is always live to take the charge from the conditioner on all Boxsters? I know the alarm deactivates after one week but assume this does not affect charging via the Cig.lighter or power socket.

I also have both Ctex and the Aldi to be honest the Aldi one is just as good and does what it says on the box all for £12

You'd think so but its not the csase - i think the permanently live ciggy lighter came in with the facelift so around MY03. I'm sure Mark or Richard will be able to confirm or correct me. Its easy enough to check though by just plugging an accessory into it (sat nav, phone charger etc etc)

All 987 Boxsters will take a conditioner through the lighter socket. I have a CTEK 3600 - you won't need a higher-spec model than that.

I've got the Porsche conditioner which I plug into the lighter socket, they come up occasionally on ebay. But at the dealership last Saturday saw they had the CTEK XS7000 plugged into a Boxster S in the showroom.

Guess that's a recommendation.
