Beakys Broken Front ARB Link

Hi Stuart - Yes Peter was kind enough to do me a good deal on it. I hope the top end rebuild will be one of the last major mechanical jobs for a while. I will let you know when shes up and running again.

Back to the ARB end bushes issue again ... I'm sure that things may well be different on M030 cars, but I came across this when I fitted some Powerflex bushes to the front of my S2 (stock, weedy-sized ARB's). A parts-supplier who shall remain nameless supplied me with some bushes for the end of the ARB's which were far too loose on the ARB's, and only after I had fitted them and realised that 4mm of slack is bad news did I learn that Powerflex have two sizes of end bush and they had supplied me with the wrong one.

The right size turned up eventually, but it necessitated another hour (or more) of work to take everything off and swap them over. I wasn't impressed.

Then, 4 days ago, I had a telephone call asking for the old bushes back! I told them that I thought they were in the bin, but would have a hunt for them. I am even less impressed now ...

So this nameless parts supplier (shame) was then attempting to sell the bushes to someone else?

I'd have words with Porscheshop over my issues but I have no doubt it would just end up with me getting cross. I know, from previous experience, their MD spends a spectacular amount of time in meetings, and out of the office, and is, seemingly, incapable of returning calls.

More likely they were being invoiced for them from Powerflex (the people who made them) and needed to send them back to Powerflex.

I'm not impressed 'cos Powerflex will put them in the bin (they are unusable) and I will have to pay for the postage.

Such is life.

Well Beaky has his full quota of FARB bushes again. [:)]

I remember thinking at the beginning of this adventure "It's only one nut, how difficult can it be?" HA!

Many thanks to Stu for getting me the correct bushes. I am sure the job might have gone quicker if I hadn't spent much time cursing Porscheshop for supplying the wrong bushes and my indy for fitting them - you would have thought a specialist would know what they were doing. [] I can only assume the bushes were hammered onto the end of the bar with a socket spanner as there was no way they were coming off. I had to cut off the unsplit hanger and the bushes both side had to be sliced to remove them. All done with the car still on its wheels just to make the job easier. [:'(]

The new hangers and bushes didn't exactly jump into position but much levering with lengths of 4"x2" got the nuts done up. I now need to go out for a thrash to get them nicely jiggled into place - at least I stand some chance of them moving now........I need to go and lay down in a darkened room first though.

I remember that stage as well. It was a real pain to get it all bolted up.

I seem to remember that the only way to get the end bushes bolted into place (on the uplinks) was to unbolt the two middle mounts on the ARB and lower it. You could then push the middle of the ARB back up once the ends were done up.

Pain in the neck either way.

I lubricated all of mine with Renolit, which is great stuff but does pong a little! Smell is starting to go away now ...
