I actually like the switchable idea so long as there is a performance benefit to the louder setting and it isn't all about making noise for the sake of it.

That said I don't agree with fooling the noise metering at circuits - we have circuits such as Comb fighting for their survival because of people moving into cheaper housing within earshot and then campaingning to get the circuit closed and it does not help the cause of keeping it open if people using it lead the marshalls to believe they are within the agreed noise limit only to wildly exceed it round most of the track as the locals will only hear the loud and use it as ammunition.

My car was too loud for most tracks and if it were still running I'd be looking for ways to make it quieter where necessary and while I don't think this would have solved my problem (which was a whistle from the wsategate I think) I do like the thinking as it's better to drive a track quietly and with reducted performance than not at all.

Hi All,

The siutation would not apply to Castle Combe when they have quiet days - as the noise would be spotted immediately. Castle Combe do have noisy days (there is at least one ith PCGB each year).

The switchable exhaust has already been dyno tested on a Level 2 equipped 944 Turbo and achieved +11bhp and +12lbft over the standard cat equipped exhaust system. The power gains are identical whether you use the quiet or loud setting. There is no loss of performance when using quiet mode - it just sounds awesome when you switch it to loud! [;)] (dyno sheets are at the workshop - I'll get them posted. Before and after was done on same dyno, same day etc.).

Andrew, is the noise just for effect or is there a performance benefit to the 'loud' setting?

Hi Ian,

There is a performance benefit to both settings - see above. [:)]

Andrew
