Been on the weighbridge...

Crumbs, those XKR's are lardy things aren't they?

They still deliver 20 bhp more per tonne than a 997 2S though (and with an overdrive pully on the supercharger even more than that :) ) And now Ford have moved Aston Martin on there is no reason to stop the XKR being less powerfull than the V8 Vantage so an XKRR or XKRS must be on the cards [8D][8D][8D]

I know which one I want when I grow up - and I won't have to worry about my RMS. [8D]

Don't know if the same applies to the 997 but autoexpress measured the noise in a cayman at 72 dB ish and 63 dB ish in the XK. That makes an XK one seriously refined place to while the hours away whereas it seems Porsche is painting itself into a corner with its approach to its cars. The most annoying feature of the boxster I drove in was the noise coupled with a performance level that was no better then a S2 with upgraded suspension.

Depends really on your attitude to these things.

I think the Cayman would be quicker around a track but I know which one I'd want to drive to Scotland in. It would be the one I'd want to drive around Scotland in as well. And while a flat six sounds good at full chat it still has nothing on the aural pleasures of a V8 (I hope I spelt that the right way).

I was at my Jaguar dealer today - a numpty reversed into my X Type at the weekend []. While I was there I looked down the flanks of an XK [8D][8D][8D]. Your eye is always drawn to the cartoon front end, which is a shame. If you stand along side the front wing and look at the rear quarter panel it has the most awesome curve to it. I haven't noticed from any other angle.

If they grafted on a proper front (not the one stolen from a Hyundai Sprint) IMHO the XK could be one of the best looking cars ever made.....well after the DB9

I was only saying that I was glad it wasn't Beaky. [&:]

Good news though. Insurers are making all of the right noises and, seemingly, couldn't be more helpful. They have even agreed the 3 door hatch back courtesy car isn't a suitable alternative while the Jag is away and have arranged a Merc instead.

Sorry guys weigh of thread now (see what I did there). I'll shut up.

Perfect opportunity to cut some holes in the front ala 924 turbo style to get more air to that IC!

I had to negotiate an upgrade from a Daewoo Matiz and to a Merc C class when my car was off the road last year. A very nice and comfortable drive but was glad to get the 944 back. So much for a like-for-like courtesy car policy!

I've now clocked up a few miles on my mates Boxster and I must say it is growing on me. The more I drive it the more I am starting to appreciate its handling - which is not too unlike the 944's. Yes it is lacking in grunt and isn't quite as sharp as the 944, but it is still a great drive - though a Cayman re-engined with a GT3 engine would be my preference (not a cab man). I must be the only person in the world who can take or leave the sound of a V8. I much prefer the sound of a straight 6 or a flat 6. I love the way a flat 6 changes sound as it drives past you - as it is coming towards you, you hear all 6 cylinders, as you are side on you only hear the three cylinders of the bank that is closest to you giving the engine a lovely raw sound, then as it goes past the other three cylinders come back into earshot and coupled with the changing pitch it just sounds so peachy. Anyway, each to their own.
