Has anyone used them? Got any thoughts on them? They and Admiral are coming up with very competitive quotes. I have had bad experiences of Admiral in the past, so was wondering about Bell.

Still waiting for Aon, A-plan and Nowell & Richards to quote.

Any thoughts appreciated.
 
Hi,

Bell is in fat part of the Admiral insurance group, so the cover is of equal quality. Same goes for Elephant. Pricing can vary widely between them for some strange reason, my renewal from Bell came in at £2000 but I got cover with Elephant for half that amount.

Over past 27 years I have insured various Porsches with Commercial Union and Norwich Union, but as premiums had increased I moved to Performance Marque as it included a years subscription to PCGB. I am now with Morethan on line (Sun Alliance)
My annual premium is £376.80 comprehensive for 3000 non business mileage pa. including legal and NCD protection, with an excess of £500. I have recently parted with my 3.6 996 C4S. and am plucking up courage to order a gen. 2 manual.
I do hope this is of interest to you.
ps. There was an added discount as we had two cars insured with Morethan.

You certainly had a different experience from me, John - More Th>n meant more than pretty much everyone else! Admiral was the lowest I got on my 2004 Boxster S; Privilege wanted about £900 for a 996 C4 of the same age. I actually went with PCGB/Norwich Union for £600 with my retired brother as a second driver.
 
I've used admiral, elephant, bell and now back to elephant.

As mohitos says, they are all part of the same overall company but their prices can vary greatly.

I think if you are young ish (18 - 20s) then they are very competitive.

My 997C2S is about £600 fully comp.

 
Ive used Bell. Seemed OK but never had to claim ......

Surprised so many folk are talking about Elephant. Try asking them if your factory fitted options are covered ......

I went with Privilege in the end and am beginning to wish I hadn't! They seemed the best on cover vs price. However they seem to want things i have never had to provide before. They want the tracker certificate which is fine, i am getting one in the post, but they also want a Thatcham approved alarm/imobiliser certificate as well. I have told them it's a factory fit alarm, but they insist that this is normal practice and that Porsche should provide one with every car...never heard of this before. Has anyone else had to do this?

I have asked my Porsche centre for help and they are looking into it. Not sure what to do, but thinking about canceling the policy with Priviledge and finding another provider, a bit of a hassle because they have taken my cash already!
 
Privlege insisted on a Tracker when I asked them for quotes on a 2004 986 and 996.

Check this list and this list for Thatcham ratings on factory-fitted alarms.

I've also found that neither Direct Line nor Privilege post you NCD-proof letters if you move a policy elsewhere, despite being told, on two occasions, that they would.
 
I have insured my daily Merc's with Admiral for years. However I found with Admiral that they would not cover any of the factory fitted optional extra's or the alloy wheels on my 997. I got fed up trying to explain that the car comes as standard with alloy wheels and that the extras are very standard on this type of car. Got no where in the end and have gone with Aon who were very friendly but not particularly efficient and I will shop around again next year.
 
Bit of an update...i have, after insisting that Privilege check their database and speak with their underwriters been informed that there was a "mistake" and that i only need to provide the tracker certificate...my Porsche centre is providing a letter stating that it has the required alarm as standard on a uk car and i will send this to them anyway to ensure they are truely happy.

What a waste of time and effort and, I have to say, it does not fill me with confidence about insuring my car with them for the year. Seems more hassle than it's worth to try and cancel and find a new insurer now.

I'm sure Aon are very good, but it took a few days to get a response to my initial call!
 
Definitely worth shopping around for quotes.
My renewal with AXA was £578, but after getting a couple of competitive quotes, my broker got the AXA down to £379 incl legal uninsured loss recovery etc.
I asked why the big difference and was told that because of so many players in the Insurance market, AXA are being very aggressive in holding onto their existing customers by offering a premium that other insurers would find hard to get close to.
Suits me, and we repeated the procedure when my father in laws SL55 AMG's renewal of £598 was taken down to £390!
So, get some alternative quotes and go back to your first insurer - you may be as pleasantly surprised as I was!
