belt replacement quote, about right?

ORIGINAL: robsangster
Im surprised to see water pump prices still quoted at £300 on here. Laso pump direct from Germany £175 six months ago.... and the euro is a tad better now.... so you might manage £150ish maybe. INA rollers/tensioners - all 5 (as you will get from OPC but in a porsche box instead of a green INA one), cam, balance, PAS and Alt belt (all Dayco) & cam chain (16V car) all GS&F - £200. Cam bolt - OPC £0.90 and top slipper £7.00, we removed and inspected tensioner body also so replace the crush washers on refitting (it was in great shape still, including bottom slipper) £1.00. Then its just labour. Admittedly the pump took about an hour..... However it was the first change at 90,000 miles. If you're unaware of the German suppliers yet - get on board! Plenty of people happy to sell you EXACTLY the same Laso pump for in excess of £100+ in the good old UK.
Rob,

Care to share those contact details? There are a number of people on here who DIY their own cars (I am one of them), and we would all be interested in details of good suppliers of quality parts at good prices.

Took my 1986 944 to TWG Peterborough and they charged me £395 all belts/tensioner, £89 service . Feel very confident with their knowledge. I was happy about that as they also did a full checkover and gave a report of work required for the future.

How much less of a job is it for a Lux than for an S2? I think that the S2 belt is wider, therefore possibly a little more expensive (it does have twice as many valves to drive) and hence the tensioner rollers will be different, but it seems that belts on a Lux/turbo are quite a lot cheaper than for an S2.

Or am I wrong?

(Rob - still want those supplier details! [:)] )

Fast service - and it's the real deal - without that £150 Porsche box. Trust me you wont be disappointed. Ive been using OPC for 20 years for everything from 356 to 996 and only buy else where when it really is worth doing so - and this IS worth doing!
Likewise get your other bits (rollers tensioners belts) from German Swedish and French - yes promax and the like do them too, but for the same money they charge for the kit I got my cam chain and PAS/Alt belt as well (assuming prices are as was a few months ago)
Slipper pad and cam bolt OPC - you wont find them cheaper.
Pay your money - takes your choice but when you are literally paying for the identical product in a different box - See the light!

Hope this helps a few of you if you didnt already know.
