I would love to know what is the best and the worst cars that you have ever owned and the first car that you owned aswell mine are:

BEST= 1980 Honda Prelude I thought this was the buisiness at the time![8D]
WORST=1979Crysler Alpine[:'(][:'(]tappety, poor quality, generally awfull (thats the good bits about it)[;)]
FIRST CAR=1973Renault 4 with funny gear change and the handling of a shopping trolly (still have great affection)[:)]

Of course the 944 would be my fun owned and enjoyable car.

Best car I had was a 1995 Suzuki Swift 1.3 GSi. Quick, nimble about town, bit of a tardis, very tall 5th gear.

Worst car. - Montego 2.0 GTI, a very well thought out car and nice to drive, good power delivery for the time, but everyone kept crashing into it!!! so I got rid of it for the Suzuki!

First Car. - My Grandfathers Morris Minor Traveller 1100. It had been laid up in his garage for 8 years after him suffering a stroke.
We put a new battery on it, hand cranked the engine, bit like winding up a toy car [:D] then coaxed the fuel pump a little and she burst into life.
I found out later that the old boy had put a Mini Cooper head on it with high lift rockers (he never drove it above 40mph. I continued the spirit with a Janspeed 321 LCB with cherry bomb and minimal mufflers,2" SU carb with water heated manifold. This think would hit 50mph in 6 seconds - it took another 4 secs to get to 60 [:D][:D].

BEST - My current S2, over ten years I've had and still love it to bits, previous Golf GTi Mk2 8v was a joy aswell.

WORST - I've had two Minis (classic ones), they rust, they understeer, they breakdown. Absolute rubbish, don't care what anyone says. Also, Triumph Dolomite Sprint, breaksdown even more than Minis (I'll always remember the 11 hours it took me to get back from Manchester to Luton, final stretch by AA lowloader)

FIRST - Mini Clubman Estate, could fit my entire house in it. Ignominious end wrapped round a fence, but it was starting to rot anyway.

Best = probably my current S2 but I still have fond memories of the 1984 Saab 900 T16 I used to run.
Worst = Metro, nearly killed my brother engine was used as a donor for my mini at the time. My current daily driver Saab 9-5 is a nice car but has annoyed me so much that in years to come it will probably rank as one the worst.

Worst car I have ever been in or driven was a Hyundai traget.

BEST : Tough choice but will say my 944 though plenty of others run it close for various reasons.

WORST : Have been fortunate not to ever have bought a truly aweful car though my Citroen BX Gti 16v did try to kill me by bursting into flames on the M40 one Monday morning rush hour. Worst car I have had to use for any length of time was my first company car an early Corsa 1.2. Dreadful and appallingly slow - made all the worse by the fact that had been driving round in 5 GT Turbo up to that point [8D]

FIRST : Lancia HPE 2000ie - lovely car, or least it was until it dissolved [:(]

First and in it's way worst - Allegro. Boy did I stand out from the other lads with their Capris and Escorts with my sludge brown velour seats and square steering wheel....was incredibly reliable though! And for some reason the girls liked it - maybe because it was just not trying to prove anything?

Best - either the 944 as it's just such a good car, or the Hyundai Accent courteousy car I took for a week to Cornwall and had an absolute hoot in. Mostly off-road....[8D]

Probably would even go for the Volvo 940 Turbo. Awesome speed from a car that size that made fools of many GTI thingies, all with only one finger on the wheel. Or both Legacies, they're so accomplished, and there was my trusty Escort Popular Plus that did 180k in little style but with great spirit. Or either of my vans, that have been both fun and profitable.

In fact, why do I ever moan about my cars - they've all been better than Public Transport or walking! [8|]

My best has to be my 944 as well. My worst car was my first, a B reg metallic Gold (almost Silver Rose colour) Escort MK3 1.3L. This car was a cut and shut and was a shed, however I remember it with great affection as it forced me to have to work on it on a regular basis and with it being my first car and gave me my first taste of freedom I have many happy memories knocking about with my mates in it and spontaineously bunking off College on sunny Friday afternoons and heading down to Cornwall and Abersoch for a weekend with the lads. Happy days.

BEST: Has to be my current 944 Turbo, although did love my first Turbo Car, a 1988 Renault 11 Turbo which was fantastic fun and suprised many people who came alongside for a play.

WORST: Nissan Sunny 1.4. Did the job, refused to breakdown ever. But dull as dish water.

FIRST: Fiat Strada 1.3 in bright orange. Always broke down but I loved it.

first .... 900cc fiat uno [8|] , cant fault it! never broke down.
worst ..... the 44! love it but has been terrible for things packing up/time spent off the road.
best .... either my transit ( gets driven like its on a rally stage and never complains even after 150K miles) or an xr2 i bought for 90 quid with 6 months t&t ! never let me down and i loved the fact that i didnt need to worry about dents/ cleaning etc

I wasnt going to mention my Allegro but seen as you did Paul, mine had the square wheel too...just shows how bad my Alpine was not to mention my Aggro!![:D][:D]

my sludge brown velour seats and square steering wheel....was incredibly reliable though! And for some reason the girls liked it - maybe because it was just not trying to prove anything?

My first car was a white mk1 fiesta xr2 (wish i still had it !!),worst has to be an fso (a sort of lada thing) which didnt have second gear so you had to go like hell in first gear and ram it into 3rd(did 52mph flat out),i took it px on a golf gti for a laugh more than anything worst but definitly a lot of fun !!. I would say my 944 turbo is my best car but i really do love my audi a4 avant !!!

I don't really have a worst car but I suppose it was the 850 T5 fast but quite boring and towards the end none of the electrics worked. It was also my first car too.
the best has to be the only other car I've ever had the 944S2 just needs a nice sounding exhaust to round it off now really I think.

Worst car definitely a 7000mile Metro in 1982. [] I HATE BL [] 2 clutches and 2000 miles later and i sold the juddering lump of junk to a guy who thought it was [8|] faultless. I will never own a "made in Brum' england" car ever again.. Yet just down the road McLaren made the best car in the world.

Best fun - VW1300 Beetle - the light front torsion bar car, - pre the "super beetle" which was different to drive. Close second fun car is my 964rs.
(My mate at tech' had a 1500 beetle which he succeeded in using to remove 70yards of hedge using the rear wing & bumper [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D].........trying to impress another mate....[:D][:D][:D][:D] who was totally unimpressed [:D][:D] and never sat in a beetle again. (All in the Dry), His dad was pretty unimpressed too I gather[8|].)

1984 [:)]

Since then, the best all rounder has been made...944T

Worst: Merc 600 SEL (v12). Its not the engine but the computer and electrics that let it down. Had it for 2 years (and had lost counts of calling the AA) then swapped it for a Merc E240 which is more reliable and less thirsty and am still driving it.

Best: Must be my current 944 S2 Cab [:)]

First: Austin Maxi 1725 (in orange). I bought it from a fellow staff who has been finally given a company car (after 20 years of service [&:]). My first car purchase out of my first month's pay packet (a big chunk gone [8|]) - a graduate programmer didn't get paid well in those days [&o]. Very proud of it and took my mum out for a ride in one weekend and the clutch cable broke [&:]. Loved it for its space - can sit three in the front (incl driver) and laughed at its contourless seats (they are almost flat). Still remembered taken it to the local garage to top up the suspension fluid [:D]. It looked quite apart in the company car park (a silent protest for low pay I suppose [:D]).

First - Sunbeam Rapier Mark III convertible; £15 quid

Worst - Mini Metro; just awful and the biggest waste of £200 I can recall

Best - Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3.

First - Ford Escort MkI 1.3GT, expensive insurance and naff
Best - Triumph Dolomite Sprint (soon to be taken by the Porsche 944 crown), enthusiasts car, modified with twin webber 45's, great fun and happy memories.
Worst - Triumph TR7, great concept but Triumph's badge was tarnished forever by BL's poor management and lack of quality control.

Trend starting here, thats 3 of us who say the metro was the worst car we ever had. I still remember the joy my brother had when he stabbed the hydrospastic suspension bulb thing with a screwdriver and watched as the car bled and dropped down on itself. That was revenge for how the thing nearly killed him in the worst tank slapper I have ever seen in my rear view mirror. Luckilly I only owned the thing for a couple of weeks and only drove it once. Amazing that the heap actually had 10 months of MoT still on it when I bought it.

I'll break the trend then [;)] I had a late model Metro Gti 16v in British Racing Green with the K series engine and it was a fantastic car. I did 80,000 miles in it and would probably still have it if some 14 year old hadn't stolen it and put it into a ditch [:(] It was just about as fast accelerating as our S2, yet could do over 40mpg on a long cruise (it did run out of puff over 110mph tho). I always longed for its head gasket to go so I could fit the 1.8 VVT engine from the MGF []
