Best Porsche?

As a new boy on the forum, how about a discussion about the best 911 Porsche ever made? We all have our cars and we all sometimes say ' should I have bought the other one? ' so in your opinions what do you think is the best one made? Also not just the best, but the most sought after, most famous and since the shape is so iconic, the best looking? I won't give my answer yet as want to see some responses. So come on all.......which one?

2.7RS/R is the most iconic although it probably drives like a pile of junk compared to a GT3RS.

For me the best looking 911 is this...

When you ask a question, you should qualify it. The one that is the best 911, the best looking, the most iconic and the most sought after??? Hmmmm, well that is a very subjective question; in fact impossible to answer as the 'best' (please define 'best') is not the best looking nor perhaps the most sought after.

The best? Well in my opinion a 997 Gen 2 PDK Cab
The best looking? I think a 3.2 Supersport cab
The most iconic? Perhaps a 2.7 RS
The most sought after? Do you mean the one that is most often sold? Well perhaps a 3.2 Carrera

Hi Harry - and welcome along to the forum![:)] You'll find that the majority of contributors to the forum are mostly the laid-back types who enjoy chewing the cud over such conundrums as the one that you've imaginatively posed for us! A lot of these cats grew up on the west coast (of England) back in the 60's and spent most of their time just kicking back and surfing and what have you - and discussing the weather. .....And you may also decide that some of your replies might be indicative of someone who let's say....might be in dire need of some sort executive relief...? I dunno, you decide. It's your call, Harry.

Anyway...er...mmmaaaann... like, the answer to your question, ok is like, unquestionably (does that sound right...?) is 42!!!! No, seriously - it's the facelifted C2 996 in Seal Grey, which incidentally is the greyest of all greys, man.

Now, I've based this purely scientific theory on the fact that..........er, it's the best one and I've got one.

And I like them.

A lot.

Thanks for that, Harry. I enjoyed that, me! And I don't want to highjack your post but just in case you were wondering:
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. Withnail and I
3. God Father 2
4. Secrets and Lies
5. God Father 1
6. Life is Sweet
7. Dead Man's Shoes
8. Swingers
9. Sideways
10. A Few Dollars More/Good, Bad, Ugly (sorry, can't decide!!)

Again, the above has been scientifically researched and, if nothing else, provides proof that I am capable of making a list.

Hope this helps!

2.7RS/R is the most iconic although it probably drives like a pile of junk compared to a GT3RS.

Actually, a really good 2.7RS is still an absolute gem to drive and completely belies its age. The 2.8RSR is a bit more fearsome on the road but still an awesome drive. These are the iconic cars in Porsche's history - and rightly so.

But, the 997Gt3s are probably the best. They are everything a 911 should be and are one of those rare examples that are equally accomplished on road or track.

Having said that, from what I've heard, I suspect that the new Gen2 997TT with paddle shift PDK and other upgrades, will be the ultimate road going Porsche.

You've driven them? I'd love to know what they are really like?

It always seems to me that journos these days say they are great in a 'this is a simple tiny car with tiny tyres, and no brakes and unless I drive it properly I could trash an expensive icon very easily' kind of way? ie they hold them in awe and wouldn't dare say they weren't particularly good, and are so scared during the test drive that they get the same adrenalin rush that driving a Carrera GT on the edge would give them.

I would actually say that the best is the first and last equally.

Without the first, no others would have followed and the last is everything that Porsche knows.
