I really thought this Post would have had more answers!! Maybe I should have put BEST PORSCHE EVER!!
Harry,
Surely the best Porsche ever for you is the C2S right now and in the past it was 964 Cab, 996 Coupe, 911 Sportsmatic, 997 Coupe, Cayenne 3.6...
The best Porsche ever is what one drives right now [8|]
Although it is a brilliant drivers car, and has one of the best engines Porsche has ever put in a road car, it hasn't got the character of the air-cooled brigade, it is a victim of the lardification of all modern cars, the interior is very germanic (unlike the beautiful 550 interiors for example), it's not particularly fast nor particularly rare.
It depends how you define 'Best' but in terms of :-
Outright performance it is bettered by the Carrera GT/GT1/GT2/959 etc
Driver appeal it is probably bettered by the 2.7Rs/R, 993 GT/RS, Carrera GT
Etc etc
I love my car to bits and it's the best Porsche I've owned by a country mile, but it's by no means the best Porsche ever made. At the price I paid for it it was the best Porsche I could buy.

Is it just me? But I am under no illusions that my car is the best Porsche ever produced, not even close.

...yes very subjective and also strongly depends on what groups you ask:
- A poll of young kids would be probably come back with the best visually appealing and best 0-60 trump cards figures for this era. Although I suspect Bugatti Veyron will be the choice but no big loss as they are all part of our new VW family []
- for Porsche owners here, there is a 18 - 85(?) years age gap and again each will pick a different bedroom/garage poster for their era...

I'll play........this
Stunning, but not a 911 [8D]
You could argue then that everything after a 3.2 is not a 911 !
