Best Substance For Reattaching Interior Mirror?

I went one further and didn't even bother re-attaching a mirror on my daily car until the MOT came up -still had wing mirrors and it solved the tailgating problem -I couldn't see them......[;)]

IIRC Halfords do a mirror refixing kit which inclues an adhesive and a mesh coated with activator.

You cut the mesh to the size of the mirror plate and (IIRC) put the adhesive on the mirror and screen and then sandwich the mesh between the two.

We used to do a lot of glass bonding for bank counter screens and the like. In those situations we used an etching primer to prepare the glass.

Decorative bars are often bonded to the face of double glazed units to give a multi-paned "period" look. In these instances either silicone of high performance double sided tapes are used. The high performance tapes are very good but do require a period of "wetting out" after application to obtain full strength. The tapes we used were actualy a super viscus fluid on a roll, so the suppliers told me.

If you rough up the back of the mirror mount (and then clean with meths) the roughened surface increases the bonding area and thus the strength of fixing. You could do the same to the glass with medium wet'n'dry but the odds an scratching something you don't want to are quite high.

Glass companies use a UV cured adhesive which is very, very strong. I've had tiny shelf supports glued to the face of glass panels which never go anywhere.

If you are near London, give me a ring, and I can put you in touch with the company I use.

I don't think contact adhesive will be any good at all, no matter how long you leave it. :ROFLMAO:

Apparently, if you soak glass in water you can cut through it. Stick a screw in it and hang it on that. Job done, walk away.

Unfortunately Jockland is a loooong way from Cockneysville. [:D]

Contact is working for the moment ~ we'll see how long it lasts though!

If it doesn't last I'll try flamingeye's solution.
