BI Xenon and Sports wheel advice.

I think OPCs would expect any cars arriving from mid-August to wait until Sept registration.

More interestingly, the 2006 build year has been brought forward. In the past the factory closed in mid-summer and re-opened in August to produce the new model year cars, with the minor updates etc, which filtered through from September.

I understand that 2006 cars will start being built from mid-July. There is a price rise but additional equipment.

Steve,

The September delivery in my personal choice. Sorry I should have clarified this. I'm told that my car will be at the OPC sometime in August, like yours, but I'd prefer to wait for the 55 plate so we have agreed for me to take delivery of the car early in September. It also fits in with summer holiday plans.

Incidentally, when I ordered the car in late May I was told that the car allocated to me was the last one off the line before the August shut down. My wait for the car, is a lot less than I was expecting, however I'm not sure whether this is just b*llsh*t, and I'm not keen on the idea of the car build being rushed so everyone can go on their holls a few minutes early! Sound too much like a 'Friday special' to me[:(]. Nothing I can do except trust Porsche to do a proper build.

Olivers post (immediately above) confirms what my OPC told me. There are a few new options on the list, such as tyre pressure sensors, and some details to the cars have been changed (no seat back pockets anymore) so if you have a July build it may be worth going back to your OPC and checking what's what. There could be more toys to add[:D][:D]! For the usual Porsche price, of course[&:]!

Kevin.

Sorry, no. I just read a snippet in the press about a 2% price rise, but improvements to spec.

Try your OPC, although even they can be a bit hazy about model year changes at this stage. Often they will say that there are no changes but, when an 06 car come through, there will be a few I'm sure.

OK, no problem. When I ordered the car the price rise was only 1% of the base cost so I hope I'm not going to get sandbagged later!. The OPC said that most options had their prices held, but he did say the Xenons had gone up. When I ordered them later they had risen to £700, from £626, Ouch! Still that's a similar price to VW or BMW so it could have been worse.

You have done well to change the spec.

When I ordered mine, I had a last minute change of mind and tried to add litronic to the spec, but had no luck. Apparently the first thing they lay out is the wiring loom, or so I was told so changes involving electrics were impossible.

Pat

I believe that the wiring loom fror each Porsche is bespoke; ie a generic loom catering for all electrical equipoment that may be fitted to a car is not installed. Hence retrofitting of many components is impossible both on the production line - after an individual car's build standard has been defined - and subsequently.

Looks like I was lucky being able to add the Xenons after the initial order!

It also looks like I may not be able to do further upgrades when I win the lottery jackpot this weekend[&:].

Ah! Well[].
