Blowing my own trumpet....

Aha thats a boost enhancer rather than a boost controller - it effectively bypasses the wastegate (am sure its more technical than that really). Had one on my car before I went further with the mods. Not sure it raises much in the way of extra BHP but certainly reduces lag and allows you to hold boost longer, rather than have it compromised by the rather weak wastegate.

Dico,

That looks like a Boost Enhancer to me. That is a device that cuts off the pressure signal to the wastegate alltogether until a set value of boost is achived. It then opens and exposes the wastegate to the pressure signal where you'd expect the wastegate to open. I have read about a few people who have fitted these having problems - I think Paul Hilux has (or had) one fitted and also has experienced similar problems to what you describe so he may be able to shed a bit more light on the setup.

Either way I don't think this is related to your misfire problem. How do your HT leads look? When I replaced mine they were in a shocking (no pun intended) state and i'm surprised I didn't have any problems with ignition.

The Elan and the 944 are different cars entirely. Fwd v rwd for starters.
My Elan has many upgrades and puts out about 210 bhp with a similar weight to the 44, suprisingly seeing as its fibreglass.
It is very difficult to get traction being fwd, even with and aftermarket lsd (Quaife) fitted. 0-60 should be less than 6 seconds, quicker still if I could get traction!
I've obviously not had chance to put the 44 to its limits, having only owned it for around 30 hours. I bought it as a daily driver, wanting to keep the Lotus for best. However its so bloomin good, if I had a double garage I would put them both away and keep the Discovery. Not sure the wife would appreceiate that!

Yea, I drive an '88 Saab 900 Turbo, which is slightly modified and puts out around 200 bhp and silly torques, and is of course FWD. Traction of the line is a problem and even on damp roads in 3rd and even 4th at (very wet) times. It's so much easier to keep in check than a 944 though (don't ask me how I know!).

I was just curious really, obviously a chipped 944 turbo (which I think mine was, but only to about 250bhp) is going to be faster than a stock elan - but I've not driven one so wondered your opinion as you have both.

Anyway, lovely looking car, hope it's not too much trouble to get it running smoothly again.

That's a Boost Enhancer supplied by Lindsey Racing and is probably the most common mbc out there for 944T's. It would take less than 5 minutes to undo the hose clamps and take it out if you wanted to rule it out of the equation
