Body shop glasgow

ORIGINAL: Rikki

Quick update.

1,500 word email rattled off this morning along with photos and links to above videos. Got a call within 10 minutes organising a car swap tomorrow and promise of fixing all faults I had noted. Will reply with more info about how the body shop deal with things :)

And apologies for the thread hijack.

Rikki,

when you are there, ask to speak to Kenny Inglis, He knows the club well and myself, I am sure they will sort everything to keep you happy,

regards
Scott,

Hi Scott, it was Kenny I spoke with before repairs were undertaken. I'd quizzed him about things and after reading some scathing reports on the company (the only real information I could find via Google were review websites) he invited me over for a tour to allay my fears and showed me some of the machines they had in which were breathtaking. As I said in my email to him this morning it looks like a very good repair job has been flushed down the toilet by a rush to get it finished off by their valeter lacky who hasnt used the right amount of water or pressure when using the polishing machine - well that and the list of other minor complaints like wheel balance and missing Porsche badge from one of my wheels.

He's arranged to pick the car up in the morning and leave a courtesy car in its place so fingers crossed second time lucky.

Good luck with that Rikki - they damaged the newly resprayed rear bumper putting my 993 onto the low loader on one of many occasions it went back for rectification work after they repaired acident damage. And that was before the car had been lowered. []

Just watched the video and "oh dear" is my only thoughts....really horrific work. Hope you get this sorted ok and in quick time Rikki - really not good from the "official" bodyshop.

Took my Honda there before as they were designated repairers and wasn't particularly impressed. I personally would not take my 911 there. This is the problem with OPC repairers if they are not up to scratch, they are just another large outfit...

Ingles in the 80s were the best but now their best is very average they needs volume so stay clear,Your just a number.(I used to manage it so its experience talking!)

Allan Taylor does all my accident repairs,If you not happy with anything or the price ask for Allan in Person he will sort it, promise, mention my name if it helps. When I sold my shop, I entrusted him with my 356 Speedster (the real deal) & to be honest it was perfect & has taken concours awards at national level.I would have been pushed to beat it myself. Allan is not geared up for classic work.He did the speedster as a favor. He is geared to accident repairs & like I said does all my accident repairs. He Loves Porsches so talk to him.

All of my classic work now goes to Colin McNair of Performance Bodyshop. Border Reivers are now Colins best customer .He really knows what a good job is & I am bloody fussy (nightmare customer) and he can nail it everytime. He currently has a 1967 Healey 3000 (concours rebuild),1969 Porsche 911T,1966 Mercedes 280 SEB convertible,1969 MGB GT, all belonging to ourselves. Next week our Ferrari 330GT goes to the shop & there is a blue 1959 Porsche 356A ready for a bare metal repaint.

I know how frustrating it can be so I hope this helps and for anyone who doesn't know me I owned the largest Official Porsche Approved Repairer in the UK (Not only in size but volume through put ) I am Porsche factory trained and a Fellow of the institute of the motor industry.

Keep the faith. Tom Fitzsimmons

This is good to know Tom. How good is he when it comes to reforming/reshaping (rear) spoilers (I'm assuming that they are made of PU or GRP?) - reason I ask is that the 2nd hand wing I bought appears to have been sanded down a little and looks slightly asymmetric (I'm another rather fussy person) and I want to find someone local rather than have to travel all the way down to England.

Both Allan & Colin can cope with that. Colin likes the challenge & is still interested in learning which I find refreshing.
So call him 1st ..... shop number 01236607256 mobile 07720416293

Sorry for lack of updates as I promised.

The car is now going back in again on Monday for its THIRD visit to have the rear lights recovered due to errant polishing; a scratch on my front wing repaired (caused at time of fitting) and to actually put my front bumper on the car so there isnt a 1cm panel gap on the drivers side where it meets the wing :(

So long as you don't give up through frustration they will get there in the end Rikki. In my experience they are capable of turning out a good quality job but for some reason (presumably through lack of a decent QA process) do not at the first or subsequent half dozen or so attempts. I never actuially counted the number of times that mine had to go back but it must have run into double figures.

Good luck

Its surely impacting their bottom line?

Employ competant people and you dont need to keep sending a low loader a 60 mile round trip, twice to pick up and drop off the same car yet again.

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed its good when I get it back this time around :)

thats shocking Rikki, Im shocked it wasnt delivered back polished and prepped and with 100% no issues !

I will speak to Kenny next time I see him about their QA. poor show, either that or your just a fussy B***** kidding ! [:D]

I genuinely like Kenny and everytime Ive spoken with him he's been 100% with me - as you say its a shame the rest of the company arent as good.

When I did my workshop visit before work was completed on the car (on its first visit) I did see that they are used to working on £50k+ cars day in day out with a lot of £100/150k+ cars sitting around too so human nature will have had an effect with the workers when a lowly Boxster appeared. I know that kinda thing happens when a Corsa appears for repair compared to a VXR8 LOL.

I am fussy but only because my performance garage pointed things out and said it will draw attention when I come to sell the car. The panel gaps and overspray (below) were only spotted when on the ramps but the wheel balance - the second time they tried to fix / balance my wheels - was still way off.

Jesus thats not a gap .........thats a fricking hole you could fall into and break your neck!!!

Sorry to hear that Rikki, hopefully it's done now byut I so feel your pain as I get pissed that people expect me to do a good job and never say thanks, but when you complain they get all crappy and still can't do it good 2nd or 3rd time around.

I thikn Parks Range Rover us a place called Colvils in Stewarton, and they did my 992 TT and I thought they were great as they did extra bits FOC and didn't need to really.

All good info from Tom too, cheers for sharing as I might need a claiss guy in the future if I get a garage and fancy a restore to my colour spec on a 911 pre 80's car.

More comedy ...

Went out to the car there to go for lunch and the back plate has fallen off. Yup, fitted by Mitchell Inglis.

Couldnt make this stuff up really :D !

The whole experience is an absolute disgrace. I wouldn't go there if I needed anything done going on what you've been through.

You can't even say it's a one off!!

I know where I'm NOT taking my 996 for a respray!

That indicator gap is atrocious....to be honest, someone the bodyshop manager should be losing his job for letting that out the door....

[][:'(][:(][][:-][8|][&o]
Why are the workmen in this country of such poor quality.... I had to reseal the bath's silicone sealant as it looked crap as well as water leaking onto the ceiling below. I did a 200% better job (you'd actually want me to come around and do yours!). Another reason why I do my servicing of my RS myself. When I changed the brake pads on my Honda, it wasn't fitted correctly by a garage!!! I would risk my own life by fitting them myself rather than have some uncaring arse killing me (fitting brake pads and disks are simple if you have the right tools).
