does anybody know where I could get hold of the Bose speaker system that replaces the storage bin on top of the engine cover? And I dont mean from an OPC!

Not only but also, has anybody added a bose system to a car that has the standard two speaker audio?

Cheers,

Matt

I'm not sure that the BOSE is available as a retrofit. It uses the new MOST (digital) bus and you will require the speakers in the dashboard and doors replaced as well. You *may* also need Audiopilot (volume-balancing microphone in dashboard) and the CDR-23 head unit to complete the package.

The BOSE amps are fitted in the front boot (I think). You'll also need these.

An easier option would be a decent aftermarket system.

Cheers Taz, sounds like the Bose option is really not an option in my case!

Do you happen to know if all the wiring for the extra amp and speakers is already in the loom for the older style sound upgrade? I have seen a couple of the sound upgrade amps for sale on ebay at very reasonable prices and thought this may be a cheaper route to a decent sound system.

Just a thought, but have you the speed sensitive sound option set ?

The BOSE is ok i think - but I found I had to turn the bass and treble up to about +8, and that you really need to have the volume up quite high to experience that sub woofer

Can you describe 'fades in and out'?

Does it do it gradually when the ambient noise of the car rises and falls or does it do it even when the car is not moving?

yep both posters above are absolutely right. there is a setting which takes into account cabin noise or speed and which varies the sound accordingly. i have it turned off cause it annoys me alot. might be that.

and the bass is +9 on mine also.

I'm not convinced about the speed sensitivity either. The OPC checked and said I only had Audiopilot and all was OK! Still not convinced though!

I'll try the bass at +9 though...........

Thanks for the responses

I have already sent the car back to be checked and they said it was ok. I have also checked that 'auto' setting is off (so it doesn't auto alter depending on car speed)

Despite this, the sub woofer volume seems to cut out then come back on - no pattern, no common factors

I think it may just be the way it is but could just be me. I haven't tried Bass & Treble turned up, though - will try this

When you're next at the OPC, ask to borrow a 987 with BOSE and see if you and the OPC guy can tell the difference. Remember to take your CD's with you for a "like for like".

You're doing well to hear the sub - mine seems to do bu66er all - perhaps i need to inflate the bass to silly levels and the volume beyond +24 [&:]

DEfinately with the bass at +9 and the volume at around +20, you should definately feel it :) But yeah, its a bit weak - and I'm sure glad I didnt buy the car new..

One of the biggest advantages of 'subs' is that they allow the other 'drivers' to work within their defined frequency range and not have to also produce low bass frequencies. Therefore, one of the real advantages of getting a sub is, ironically, better midrange. A good sub, usually isn't heard very much. Bad 'speakers (subs) produce the 'boom boom' heavy bass inaccuractely associated with good 'speakers, but real bass isn't like that at all.

Also most 'subs' should never actually be called subs, especially in cars, they don't usually reach any kind of 'sub' level. The reason why you have to turn up the wick so high to hear any bass is because they are small and cannot physically produce audible low bass frequencies.

So the solution is get 2 x 10 inch drivers behind each seat, get a power amp to handle each channel....and while you're at it, get some spinners for your alloys, and those oh-so-this-season neon lights to go in the washer jets.[:D]

I have to say I don't see any great difference in Bose. OK this is my first Porsche and have not experienced a non Bose model but the overall hi fi effect is not much different to the (good) Audi stereo in my old TT. I have to turn the volume up to 20+ but I like the way the volume adjusts to road noise when the top is down. I also have the bass and treble at higher settings than I think i would normally. I bought a OPC demo which came with Bose and other extras but dont know if I would bother next time

Seems to have improved - thanks for all the advice....

I've upped the bass and treble, changed the fader and ensured AP is off. At higher volume, now sounds better and seems to have stopped fading

Thanks

Hi
I have an april 04 boxster s cele bration model with a bose system and it has been back to garage countless times . The volume is erratic and sometimes when you switch on ignition it comes on at full volume . They have repaced the unit and yje amp . Not as bas as it used to be --it would refuse to come on or increase vol without warning . They also say that Porsche do not know of any problem . I do not believe them

I've heard of folks putting 10" subs behind the seats but I really can't see how anybody could fit anything behind the drivers seat. I'm only 5 ft 10 and the sit is all the way back and it's still not quite enough.

Does anybod have any pics of there audio installs ?, would really like to see how others have fitted there speakers.

When people say behind the seats they mean the storage space (I hope); the Bose sub comes in the horizontal space in the centre space (the shutters in the pict below). Also, the pict below shows the rear speakers option available in States but not to us:

You also get high-range rear speakers.
I suspect you get a different amp as well...? (I haven't got it and the details are not at hand).

The wind deflector can usually be left in position - I can't see why the average driver would ever need to remove it (apart from for cleaning the rear window) I only ever remove it to fit a camera mount to the roll over bar when on track.

I think there are 10 speakers in total, 4 in the doors, 2 on the dash, 2 mid-high range behind your seats and the sub, which on mine looks like it's in 2 parts.

You also get a special amp which is in the front boot.
