bose

The wind deflector is the same in Bose and non Bose cars. What is different is that in the non Bose cars, there are storage areas in the shelf below the deflector, whereas there is a subwoofer in that place in the Bose cars. There are extra door speakers plus a natty little "Bose" sign too. While the whole set up is an improvement on the standard, it is probably not worth the extra £1,000 new but well worth seeking out in a used car where you effectively get it for free.

IMVHO .. we have had various Boxsters over the years .. first 986 did not have BOSE and the last 987 didnt (cancelled order helped us get a 987 quickly) .. And after that 987 we decided we would never spec a Box without BOSE again .. New one has BOSE in it

As you mention the CDR23 I'll assume its a 986 facelift.

For the 986, you have the following.

2 speakers on the dash as normal.
2 speakers in the doors.
2 small speakers behind the headrests.
1 sub between the rears.
There is an amp in the front boot behind the spare wheel which powers the lot I believe.

On the facelift 986, the system is connected by the MOST harness. Its a fiber optic setup which links the changer to the HU and the HU to the amp.

Makes it a pain to change the HU, amp or changer as you would have to change all 3.

Feature wise you get the Audio Pilot function which is like a fancy auto volume and equalisation. It has a mic in the binnacle and adjusts the sound depending on the ambient noise.

Not sure of the differences between the 22 and 23 sorry, apart from the MOST connectivity?

I've never removed my wind deflector apart from when cleaning it so not sure there it would go. It would certianly fit in the boot but would probably slide around a bit.

My honest opinion is that the Bose isnt' very good, and the best system is the Porsche sound pack. I find even with the bass on the minimum level its just too boomy, and with audio pilot on it sounds frankly ridiculous.

On the plus side it would help come resale time I suppose.

The wind deflector can usually be left in position - I can't see why the average driver would ever need to remove it (apart from for cleaning the rear window)

Mark,
I remove it during winter months as it definitely helps with better air circulation in the rear when the hood is closed for the season; as you know mine is a facelift with the glass and I benefit from the extra space for air to move back and forth, so I would have thought that the pre-facelift plastic would benefit even more? I assume people with hardtops do the same?

My 03 facelift has bose, and spacesaver wheel. Deflector has a fabric cover and when deflector is off it can be stored in the spacesaver cover. Mine has the warning triangle in it and the cover behaves a bit like a kangaroo pouch and takes both.

I have the plastic rear window and keep my wind deflector in place all year, like Mark B. I used to drive my car every day in the winter for the commute to work and never had an issue with condensation. I was told that it is a different story if you don't have aircon.

Leave mine in place all the time, but on uneven roads it rattles so i have hot melt glued the thing in - stops the rattle but if i really needed to remove it i could quite easily.
Storage for it is in the front kangaroo pouch on the spare wheel cover - you dont need to just throw it in the boot

If you have the Bose system in a 986, I take it there are different door cards to accomodate speakers. If this is the case, does anyone know if these are sold on their own? I have the standard speakers on the dash only and therefore only use the front speakers on my HU. I would like to put some 17cm speakers in the door and connect to the HU, but I don't want to modify anything.

Going back on topic, I borrowed a 987 for a couple of days. I'm not sure if it was the Bose or the Porsche uprated system, but there was a woofer and some high end speakers under the wind deflector. It sounded terrible, to be honest with you. The bass was really boomy, and the automatic volume thing was a joke. It didn't gradually increase the volume, just turned it right up as you hit 40mph.
