Bought my first 911 yesterday

Hi Kevin,
yes you can still get hold of original audio units. Yours will be a Blaupunkt, either Koln or Atlanta.
I looked for a Toronto a while ago for mine.... £795 for a mint one , couldn't justify that particularly as I listen to the engine music most of the time [:)]
(audio type is shown on option code sticker inside hood and service book link to options :-

Regards
Graham

Excellent Graham, Thank you. If they are anything near that price then like you, I will stick with the engine music :)

Interesting to see yours also has the dreaded wing Aerial ,Mine also !
I have been told that in the early 80's FM was pretty weak and the screen Aerial wasn't that good so the yuppies had the wing one put on . Not sure if that's true but it sounds feasible . I have seen one with a roof aerial as well.

The screen aerial was introduced with model year '85, so late '85 delivery onwards. Prior to this a wing mounted aerial was used. An electric aerial (normally UK spec) would be fitted to the offside wing (i.e. non petrol filler side). In other markets a manual aerial would be fitted to the nearside wing (i.e. petrol filler side), unless air-con was fitted and then the aerial was fitted to the offside due to the dryer canister being in the way.

Yep, this confirms that Kevin's aerial is a standard fitting, whereas my 87 has "the yuppie fix"
my car also has the evidence of the car phone kit fitting which at that time was a socking great big box in the luggage compartment (too big to fit under the seat) and a cradle on the centre console for the handset. Thankfully they didn't drill a hole in the roof so I guess a stick on aerial was used.

regards
Graham

Hi Kevin,
howd you get away with that number plate?
Graham

Hi Graham. I only put that plate on yesterday. Have been running another German plate for the past month without issue (Touch wood) I do carry the UK plates around with me at all times though .

Kind regards, Kevin

I notice the fog lights have been removed. I couldn't decide whether it was due to them being broken on reversing (I've done that a few times without damaging the bodywork) or whether they had been incorporated into the rear cluster.

I was wondering this myself. No signs of any damage. I will have a play with the lights to see what happens :)

I also have the wing aerial, and like you don't want to replace it for originality. However, I have installed a button under the dash to stop it extending so I can listen to a CD without having to have the aerial up.

Mine seems to sit still when I switch the CD player on. Only extends when I choose the radio function. I dislike my head unit with a passion though as it's one of those Sony jobbies with loads of flashing lights........... :(
